Meh, they’re not going to contend and they’ll probably have young guys in all the other spots. If any team can afford a nostalgia signing, it’s probably them.

Except when Jhonny does it, in which case it’s a dhouble.

Garko leaping catch on a ball he almost certainly wouldn’t have had to leap for if he was, you know, good.
my bad. i was writing a reply to your Garko comment and was overcome with excitement . . .

Unfortunately, Gameday is really erratic today. It’ll be three batters behind the audio, then throw out the results for all three in about 2 seconds.
It seems odd that mlb isn’t posting the links to all the gameday feeds. Why have them active and not made available unless clever users twiddle with the URL…?
Probably because it’s clear that like everyone else, Gameday is in ST mode. Erratic updates, no pitch-by-pitch, etc.
Francisco DP – not awesome.
Has BenFran kind of been the forgotten player this spring? I haven’t seen much discussion around him, about anything.
Is anyone else able to get ESPN Gamecast to work, or is no one else trying?

What’s interesting is that, for the most part, our struggling pitchers have kept their walks down. They’ve just been hammered.
Maybe the whole staff needs a little time to shake the Mujica off.

i have decided that only hafner’s homerun is for real.

Hafner up again. Fouls off the first 2 pitches. Takes a ball. Line drive single to right. BenFran scores.
Wood gets through that inning in about the same amount of time it takes Betancourt to complete threep itches
I hate having and itchy threep!

I am sorry but .. Lee is terrifying to me… he is giving up HR’s left and right.. that is the same Lee that got left of the postseason roster…. at this point in spring you dont “work on things” against one of the worst teams in baseball this is scary.
I thought he won more or less because we would have had to put him on waivers though, not because of his performance in ST
No, he still had an option remaining, they just really, really did not want to do it.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Warning: Long and boring vent ahead
I had checked in for a flight tomorrow morning, and prepaid the $15 bag check fee (which is obnoxious all by itself, but that’s another story)… I prepaid because I have to take a shuttle to Phoenix tomorrow and it’s going to be relatively tight, so I didn’t want to have to wait in an extra line at the airport. Anyway, turns out I fit everything I need in a carry-on, so I called customer support to cancel the bag reservation. Once I eventually got hold of a person (when several menus took me in a loop), I was initially told the fee was nonrefundable, so I asked to talk to a supervisor. When the “supervisor” (who sounded identical as far as I could tell) came on, he told me he’d have to call someone or other and put me on hold again. While being transferred I got disconnected. I called back, and explained again, and they told me they had to transfer me to the “online help desk”. Once I got there (after more hold music), I was told that I needed to call the refunds department… except they were closed by now, and wouldn’t be open again until well after it would do me any good. After a few other dodges, he eventually put me on hold again, and came back and said “as a one time exception” he would refund my fee (this after telling me there was physically nothing he could do from where he was).
So eventually I got my frickin’ $15 back (supposedly — we’ll see if my credit card statement shows the refund), but if I had a real job, the time I spent doing it would be worth more than the fee. It’s seriously like Soviet Russia. Except much of it is in India.
I know we’ve covered this before.. but is the situation that Koba has to approve being sent to the minors?
I feel like I’ve been one of the last MK holdouts. This was it for me, I fold. Take him away. Though we should at least try to send him down.
Yes from Jay from Indians. Masa does have to approve.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Maybe all along it’s just been a clubhouse bet between Lee and Masa on who can have the worse ERA, and in reality, they’re both on top of their game.
Let us pretend.
It’s a Korea vs. Japan thing….
Wait…

Gutz misplays a bloop by Barfield. Runners at 1st and 2nd. Ben Francisco up. Drives one high off the batters eye in center. 2 runs score.
DeRosa down in the count 0-2. Nubs one to the pitcher who decides to throw to 3rd to get BenFran; hits BF in back with ball. Runners at the corners. Still no outs.
At this point I’m actually gonna be kinda annoyed if they don’t win this joke of a meaningless game.
Runner thrown out trying to steal second. Indians coming up, looking to tie this thing up and hopefully hold Seattle in the bottom half of the ninth and send this puppy into STEXI.
Shoulda legged it out to third.

Hafner up and in a 2-0 count. Big hack, fouls it back. Takes a pitch, 3-1. Swinging strike. Full count. Hafner strikes out swinging.
Lopez up. Broken bat foul, bat head into the seats nobody hurt as evidenced by the applause. Line drive base hit.
That would be an amazing feat, esp since we’re playing the Mariners

Johnson up and desperately wants to send the home team fans away happy. 2-2 count. Jam shot to Peralta. Ball Game!
Basically any team sport is comprised of a bunch of individuals who choose sides of an inanimate object, push it around for a mutually agreed period of time and in the end agree on an outcome with the approval of mutually agreed upon judge or judges. Nothing has changed in the cosmic sense except what the sportsmen and the people who choose to view it agree upon. You may hate the outcome of a game, but the final score only exists in the collective minds of the participants and spectators. One team is considered less and the other is considered more, but nothing tangible has actually changed.

What a satisfying 14-14 , April fools day ballgame. I feel dead inside. Regular season where are you?
wait a minute… if you read the score backwards and insert slashes it’s 4/1 4/1….
By golly I think this game was fake!

I preface this by saying I don’t really follow a lot of spring training ball, but these games in Arizona seem ridiculous. Tons of balls lost in the sky, crazy wind blown homers and then the usual gaffes and errors that happen from players playing in odd positions. It just makes for lazy, clunky baseball that doesn’t seem to really give you a value on what anyone is really capable of.
I was actually going to make this rant last week, but today just kind of brought it all back to me. Let’s play some real baseball.
Ben Francisco's only fan on LGT
Completely OT. But I just got R.E.M.‘s 1985 Rockpalast performance, and during “Hyena” the backing vocals actually sound like hyena cries, unlike the studio version, where they just sound like…backing vocals. It may not sound as good but at last it’s accurate.
This is a lot cooler than whoever the [redacted] alphabeat is.

Somehow I think the biggest beneficiary of this game was Scott Lewis.
