A bit surprising. But, maybe this is what he needs to push himself.

Ben Francisco's only fan on LGT

The question, however, remains, who goes down?

Barfield is below both Graffanino and Crowe on the depth chart, it looks like. But I don’t know how comfortable they are (or should be) with a three man bench.

Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

I’m feeling an outfielder, since we’ve got more spare outfielders than middle infielders. Crowe would be most logical, but I could see Francisco. It’s unlikely this organization would be that dismissive of him, but Crowe certainly seems to be the hotter hand.

You could make a case that both an outfielder and an infielder should be sent down, and that they should bring up another reliever with Laffey.

I’m not sure either has even a lukewarm hand. BenFran is at .167/.250/.333 in 20 PA, Crowe at .167/.231/.250 in 13. The basic difference between them is Francisco’s XBH left the yard and Crowe’s didn’t. Plus, Ben has +1 grit, with two HBP.

Well, Crowe has the hotter switch hand. And he’s less horrifying defensively. I’m not predicting it; I could just understand it.

Mostly I’m trying to compute whose option is least expensive.

Surely it will be Crowe. Don’t you think Wedge has a veteran pecking order in his head? If he sends down BF, it will be a message.

by dgcambridge on Apr 14, 2009 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Francisco’s option is more expensive, because it’s his last. Crowe’s option is almost free, since he has three remaining and is likely to use one at some point this year anyway.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

We’ve used 2 of those already? Time flies when you’re playing the right way.

Plus, Ben has +1 grit, with two HBP.

OK, so what is his saving throw vs. demotion?

We’re going to look at this as the turning point of 2009. 17 wins for Laffey.

First QS of the season on Wednesday. I’m calling it.

I voted for him in the breakout season poll. I have very high hopes.
