I figured even the 2 or 3 non-lawyers who frequent this site might enjoy this article.

The obsession needs to end man. It’s just tiresome. We get it, the Yankees suck. I work under that assumption everyday so I don’t need to discuss it nonstop.

it’s my tiresome obsession with them that’s the problem, is what you’re saying.

A professor of mine once wrote an article about the lawfulness of this practice—don’t remember the details, but it wasn’t a positive conclusion.
I only remember it because I took the opportunity to make a Kei Igawa joke on the class list-serv that was likely the peak of my legal career.

I was wrong about all of that. He was only quoted, and he thought the Yankees could get away with it. But I was right about the joke. It was very well-received.
Actually, our TA was a Tigers fan, which made for a fun week of class during the Yanks/Tigers series (’06).

Slow down there. A month to go. And thanks, but frankly, we’re just expensive and conceited foot soldiers.

I’m a big fan of the Gyro cart on Amsterdam between the law building and the hospital.

Not a cart guy, but I’ve sampled from him. Good stuff.

Brief and pointless stint at the college. I still have friends there in the various Grad programs, and I am infatuated with Morningside Heights as a neighborhood. It’s what I tell people who hate New York for its crowds or atmosphere: find a different neighborhood. Get out of Midtown.
Every time I visit NYC—if I’m not already staying there—I go up there to chill out. It’s more tranquil and attractive than most neighborhoods in Manhattan. Very good gyros.

That pretty much crystallizes how I feel about New York. You never have to leave your neighborhood if you don’t want to—it’s a bunch of small communities in the guise of a huge city. Like you said, just stay out of midtown if that’s your thing.

I wonder how much this is true of most large cities. It’s true of Chicago to some extent, though not on a scale that compares to New York.
by afh4 on Apr 16, 2009 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s definitely true for Atlanta with the added benefit that if you do happen to want to go from one neighborhood to another, it’s a 3 hour drive and public transport is criminally underfunded.

i graduated further downtown from you in ’06, when they were just handing out the jobs. bummer about heading into law school at the same time and then graduating into the midst of this employment wreck. hopefully you have one of those year-long pro bono deferrals.

Thanks. Fortunately, I’m set—just waiting longer than I’d planned. I’ll get to watch the stretch drive and playoffs from Erie, which is a silver lining.

Oops, missed it. I had the chance at a year-long, but chose to start ASAP, which means December.

you sir, are insane. the only thing we’ve been doing at these places for the last 3 months is sitting around talking about how nice it would be to take a pay cut to do pro bono for a year. loans are a b though.

A friend of mine is trying to decide now between Columbia and Harvard Law…. Any thoughts?
by Logodaedalus on Apr 16, 2009 1:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Harvard for sure. I mean that’s no knock on Columbia. I would go there in a heartbeat but I don’t know how an offer to Harvard Law could be turned down, in my opinion.

Yeah, I think all else being equal that would probably be the obvious choice. Columbia is offering him a lot of money though, apparently. So I guess the question is, under what set of conditions (career goals, etc.) is Harvard enough better to take on a bunch of loans that you wouldn’t have to be saddled with if you went to Columbia…

I’ll take a stab at this. Dude is pretty well set up. There’s precedent for reaching the office of President of the United States while starting from either place. Tell him to get a life. Make a choice and go for it—just go. He’s lucky to have good choices before him. Don’t be uptight. Life isn’t a state of immaculate perfection. Just pick something and go.

I like stories of absurdity, and we happen to be playing the Yankees tomorrow, so I don’t find this irrelevant.
I bet that this dude read that article beforehand, and he made it his personal mission to challenge the policy. Either he has brain damage, a staggering ego, or both. In an case, there’s no turning back now.
The Yankees don’t depend on his satisfaction, and they could do without a squeeky wheel in their midst. Would it be malicious on the part of the Yankees to revoke his 1/4 season tickets and/or enforce a lifetime ban for this guy? That’s what I’d like to do, if I were running things. But could I?

I’d like to comment, but anything I say will definitely fall into the “Prohibited” topics here on LGT.

Ahh my two favorite non-Indians topics: lawyers and the Yankees. This whole thing just smacks of idiots run amok. Bee-you-ti-full!!

After this series, LGT needs a moratorium on NYY news. It’s beginning to border on pathetic.
