It's not revenge we're after...

...it's a reckoning. The Indians help inaugurate the new Yankees stadium this afternoon at 1:05, facing former ace C.C. Sabathia. I think you all know what this means. I don't have time, but I'd love to see a photoshop job of the above featuring Wedge, Lee, Sizemore and Victor.

Mr. Hafner would like to see you in his office, Adam.
Are you going to be around for the game thread?

Maybe some of it. Definitely not all. Definitely not the last bit, but we’ll be up 10 by then anyway.

I’m kind of expecting this game thread to be the most epic ever.

Neither Hafner nor Pronk is playing today. I know CC is a lefty, I know that they’re being careful with his shoulder … but man.

No it isn’t. Castro’s got the lineups:
INDIANS: CF Grady Sizemore, 3B Mark DeRosa, 1B Victor Martinez, SS Jhonny Peralta, DH Shin-Soo Choo, RF Ben Francisco, C Kelly Shoppach, 2B Tony Graffanino, LF Trevor Crowe. LHP Cliff Lee.
YANKEES: SS Derek Jeter, LF Johnny Damon, 1B Mark Teixeira, RF Nick Swisher, C Jorge Posada, 2B Robinson Cano, DH Hideki Matsui, 3B Cody Ransom, CF Brett Gardner. LHP CC Sabathia.

Just noticed no Cabrera. I wonder if there’s a reason for that.

Should say, what the reason for that is.

besides my effort to ignore the Yankees, I am still surprised to see how weak a 200M payroll lineup can look.

was surprised to find that the run differential is only 8 between the two teams. It feels like the Tribe has only scored about 12 runs all season.

Sabathia’s the second best hitter on the team.

Two straight days of trial mean I can’t skip out of work to watch live like I wanted. I’m going to Tivo and hope not to find out, which is dubious since the guy with the office next to mine is a Yankees fan.
A Sizemore homerun at about 1:06 eastern time would do a whole lot to restore my belief in justice in the world, which is a bit shaken at the moment.
LGT!

Great pic. My blood has been simmering all winter, just waiting for this game. I’ve been disgusted with the whole Yankee stadium boondoggle and excess – made worse by the signing of CC, someone we thought would never go to the dark side.
I wonder if the rest of the Indians have had this on their minds – we’ve all been on a slow simmer waiting to bust loose today. Maybe, everyone is now ready to start the season???

More grist for the mill, but Chris Carton, the jackass, Howard Stern wantabe who WFAN hired to replace Imus was giddy that the Yankees were playing “the worst team in baseball” to open the stadium. He also gave his partner, Boomer Easiason, 10 to 1 odds that Texeria hits a home run today.

Thoughts on today’s roster:
Can anybody remember the last time a rookie got as much playing time in his first week as Crowe has? Asdrubal, maybe? I don’t think Dellucci would be getting this many ABs if he weren’t DLed.
Crowe in left, Francisco in right: A comment on Crowe’s arm? Big left field in Yankee Stadium and we want his range? Southpaw on the bump?
Okay, so: We don’t really have that much faith in Garko as right fielder, do we, Eric?
How much longer can the team afford to keep Perez up here? I’m just not seeing improvement, and Meloan’s making a pretty convincing case for himself.
by fleerdon on Apr 16, 2009 12:07 PM EDT reply actions
If Meloan turns out to be good, I’d be very happy.

Interesting thought. I’m wondering if this is just the best anti-Sabathia lineup we could muster, defense be damned. Lots of batspeed here, and CC doesn’t have a huge platoon split.
by fleerdon on Apr 16, 2009 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Defense be damned? Isn’t that Crowe’s whole point? Otherwise I would think we’d have Choo in the OF, and Garko as DH.
Crowe, Crowe, Crowe – this can’t be the plan right? I don’t believe this is the plan. I’ve got 4 letters for Crowe, and they’re all A.
