Hard to think of a worse match-up for us: Pavano for the first time back in NY, and a strikeout machine on the mound for them, without CC’s overthrowing issues.
I don’t know, Burnett’s stats against us aren’t that great. Out of 5 games he’s only won 1 and his ERA is 7.20.
La Presidenta del Club de Amantes de Rafael Betancourt.
Looks like everyone’ s had some success against him except DeRosa.

Garko gets his first start in RF… and in the new jetstream alley at new Yankee stadium no less. Wow.
I guess it doesn’t matter who’s out in right, because everything leaves the yard anyways.
Ben Francisco: An Outfielder only on baseball cards and roster sheets.
Seems like an odd day to start Garko out there, though. Why not play Crowe and get another lefty bat in the lineup against Burnett?

Garko 4/10 with 2 doubles vs Burnett
Ben Francisco: An Outfielder only on baseball cards and roster sheets.
I never know what to make of these match up stats, which are almost always, by definition, SSS.

I have no idea if this is right, but I like to think of it as an absence of a negative. Obviously it doesn’t mean that Garko is a 1.000 OPS hitter against Burnett, but hopefully it rules out the idea that there is something about the matchup where Garko just doesn’t see the ball well against him.
Well, surely we know more about Garko’s match ups against Burnett than we know about Crowe’s (although we could examine Burnett’s career splits against L/R as well). But if Garko were 0/10 against Burnett would that mean he doesn’t see the ball well against him?

Yeah, I’m not sure how I feel about that decision.
La Presidenta del Club de Amantes de Rafael Betancourt.
Generally I prefer to have Crowe doing his thing on the bench, but this is an interesting balance – Garko’s bat against a righty versus Crowe’s defense. Really, part of the decision may rely on the fact that RF is less than expansive here.
And hey, 2nd day in a row with a lineup with no Graffy and Crowe! I like those guys, but I like that as replacements with minimum starts.

Taking a break from GMAT prep for this game. It’s bittersweet – on the one hand, I’m happy that these games are on TV but it also pisses me off that I know the only reason we’re on is because we’re playing the yankees. I mean, 3 out of 4 games on national TV? That’s absurd. And the yankees probably get this every week no matter who they play against.
When you say “national tv”, which station do you mean? And, additionally, does said station have a watch online thing?

Where are you that you’re blacked out? Blackouts are ridiculous these days, they’re archaic.

The one where he can’t hit the fastball up and in? I think that’s making fun of him more than anything.
I know but he has this one line that is such a jackass line. He goes “dear producers of mlb09 the show, the game thinks I can’t hit the high heat – you’re gonna fix that right?”. And they say no, because they want to be realistic. So he shows his MVP plaque or whatever and says “how many MVPs do YOU know that can’t hit that pitch?”
It is dripping with jackassery.

Broadcasters always talk about it. They are, after all, supposed to keep the listeners aware of what’s going on.
No, they don’t. Broadcasters who used to play the game generally don’t.
La Presidenta del Club de Amantes de Rafael Betancourt.
I just can’t recall any game that I’ve watched or listened to, that was getting into the later innings where the commentators weren’t, in part, talking about it.
My first game at Yankees stadium was Wells perfect game but I wasn’t listening to the radio broadcast. Actually, though, I’ve watched the rebroadcasts of that one and David Cones and Johnson’s and in all of them the broadcasters talked about what was potentially going to happen. Same goes for Mussina’s almost perfect outing against Boston in 2001. I could cite a few more if I really put my mind to it.

When I hear Damon’s comments about Wang, I’m glad we have our clubhouse culture and not theirs. Unbelievable.
Basically saying how Wang’s performances are making it really tough on their bullpen and making it tough to win games even days after. It’s true stuff, but it’s always dicey criticizing teammates when you suck as much as Johnny Damon.
