Fukudome lines out to short. That guy really faded last year. Killed my dreams of a nice fantasy pickup.

Dont have time to stick around, but
• CHOOOOO!
• Brick, you know I wasn’t actually calling you racist, right?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
i didn’t. but glad you weren’t. i read that comment 20 times trying to figure out what you meant. probably good to just not go down that road.
Say Jay, a little OT here, but I was wondering how you got a hold of Antonetti. Are you that famous now or did you just email him or something? Sorry if you already discussed this.
I would say that I’m considerably less famous than Antonetti, who in turn is considerably less famous than Victor Martinez. Everything is relative, and I gather Antonetti doesn’t put too much value on “fame.” Without going into details, between LGT and MSP, I had enough credibility in the organization for Chris to return my e-mails, and we set up a phone appointment to talk. After that, it was up to me to “sell” him on the kind of interview I wanted to do, which I discussed in the first entry.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Facebook just sent me a really weird notification. It said that the Indians were in discussions to trade Westbrook to the Tigers, and then when I clicked the link a big APRIL FOOLS appeared with a link to the Team Shop
Had to leave for a while. Back now. I suspect the players are as bored with spring training as we are.
I’m so nonplussed by this point
So 2009.

On my gameday page, for the game between Cleveland and Chicago, there’s an ad for a restaurant named Boston’s, which is evidently in Texas, advertising a contest to win a trip to see the Rangers play in Tampa Bay. That’s some targeted marketing.

Been thinking about Wedge’s quote about playing time, “2 or 3 starters each” for Kelly and Victor.
Seems to me that’s the diplomatic way of saying, 3 for Kelly and 2 for Victor. If it was the other way around, he’d just say it.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It would surprise me a lot to find Hafner being more effective right now against lefties than either Garko, Benfran, or Shoppach. Happy surprise, but surprise.
"Mixed emotions. Rather see him hit PEDroia [with that pitch]. I don’t care if he is in the dugout"
I think it’s more about each player’s ceiling. Hafner can’t keep all three of them out of the lineup anyway, only one at a time.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

My dream is for the Indians any cleveland professional sports team to win a championship.
"Mixed emotions. Rather see him hit PEDroia [with that pitch]. I don’t care if he is in the dugout"
I want every Cleveland team to win a championship in their current season. Because of that I’m rooting that the Cavs will win it first, followed by the Indians about 4-5 months later.
Steel Nick
Air high-five.
This reminds me of the nfl commercial (before the 2007 season) are talking through a cubicle wall and one says, “The championship goes through cleveland this year!” and the other highfives the wall and goes “wooooO” or somtehing.
"Mixed emotions. Rather see him hit PEDroia [with that pitch]. I don’t care if he is in the dugout"
I want the Indians to win before the Cavs.
So 2009.

The Cavs have never broken my heart. The Indians have done so multiple times, which I think is the best way to explain my obsession with them
The Cavs have broken my heart several times. Jim Chones breaks his foot. The Shot. Oh, yeah, the Cavs have broken my heart.

So do I, in the abstract, but I specifically want the Cavs to win it right now.
It won’t mean the same thing as an Indians championship, but it won’t take anything away from an Indians championship either.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Gawd this lineup has the potential to be filthy.

Columbus scored three times in the last half-inning. Now trail Iowa 8-6. Someone I’ve never heard of now on to pitch for our side.
What? What’s this? Did this come from the Indians broadcast, or are you getting Columbus updates somewhere?

Cary Grant never said this, although it is often attributed to him.
It’s like “You dirty rat, you killed my brother, you dirty rat” which was not the dialogue Cagney actually spoke.

I never said he or anyone else said it.
I just think there’s something funny about calling a strikeout a “Judy.”
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Wasn’t meant as criticism of your comment, Jay. Just a “hey did you know” kind of trivial item.
And yes, there’s something funny about Judy = strikeout.
'Z' button abuser.
I also thought you were actually referencing Grant with the “Judy, Judy, Judy” line.
'Z' button abuser.
I was referencing the quote commonly attributed to Grant.
An old friend of mine had an interesting version of it. He would get in his exaggerated Cary Grant voice and say, “Judy, Judy, Judy … where’s my white panties?” He also liked to get hammered on scotch and make whatever girl he’d picked up recite Byron to him. Interesting guy.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

you know, it really is just when people say things like – oh, well bummer we lost, but at least i have the guy that no-hit us on my fantasy team!
I am venturing for the first time into fantasy baseball this year as a co-manager. I don’t like it already
OOTP fictional leagues. The only way to go. All the fun of fantasy baseball without the players being, you know, real.
Well in truth, I don’t really want to follow most teams that closely. My interest in baseball is purely about the success of the Indians. A co-manager is the only role where this is possible
I’m with you on that. If it wasn’t for fantasy sports I would have no clue about the rest of the teams in the league, players, etc. Then again, maybe that isn’t a good thing.
Well it has its benefits and drawbacks. I should probably know more about a guy like DeRosa before we acquired him, but I really didn’t know much of anything about him
He is already becoming one of my favorites though
In whomevers defense you traded with, while Jhonny puts up phenomenal numbers for a SS, Derosa’s versatility makes him a very well rounded fantasy player. One of the things (besides his buttload of steals) that makes Chone Figgins so attractive….you can plug a guy like that in anywhere.
However, if I didn’t have a bitchin’ shortstop, i would pull that trigger too.

That’s what the haters all say. I am expecting some excuses for Marte’s homer from the “he just looks awful” crowd
Except the Marte haters were doing far less rationalization. 700 consecutive PAs of crappy AAA ball + dumped by 2 orgs quickly + clearing waivers….
Dumped ‘quickly’—flipped—by only one org in one offseason. Doesn’t really say anything about Marte. They were just wheelin and dealing. It can’t tell that they got a special glimpse into Marte’s game at all during that time. The AAA showing wasn’t good, obviously, although it’s murky enough. But why go over that again? I’ll grant the Marte haters that he cleared waivers—yes, he factually did that, and sure it says something about where his perceived value is right now.
It’s pretty easy to ignore Marte altogether at this point. Or it would be easier to ignore him were it not for the vitriol he arouses. I still don’t understand that. Marte is not some appalling blight on our franchise. I can’t think of another Indian who has been so irrationally reviled. He’s the opposite inverse of Vizquel.
Hey, many people also thought Jeff Kent was a piece of crap while he was with us because his name wasn’t Carlos.
I think the vocal defense of Marte on this website causes some befuddlement, I think understandably so. He’s become a polarizing figure.
I have no beef with Marte, nor do I have a sense of yearning for his arrival.
Thankfully the tempers are mostly defused, aside from one recent and minor flare-up. You’re right that it takes two sides. I think the haters’ impatience started it, like people were hoping he’d fail over Coco or something, but the backlash against Blake might have been a little too fierce. Maybe that’s how it escalated. I dunno. I still think it’s strange. I sense that we’re almost ready to finally move on, if we haven’t already.
I just want the team to do well. It’s how I can pull for Andy and be excited for DeRosa at the same time. If Andy’s able to be apart of that success—great—but it matters so much less to me than just being good.
Marte hits a homerun, and someone says that the haters will use their familiar rationalization to discredit his act as a sign that he’s good. It was just one AB, of course, the smallest of small sample sizes, and it presupposes that Marte haters need to rationalize to have a point. Which is just ridiculous.
And I’m not a hater. I wanted Marte to clear waivers, I want him with the org – even though some who’ve defended him most think that its best for Marte and the Indians to let him go. I still like having him, for the extremely unlikely chance that he lives up to the numbers he posted as a teenager. Busted prospects are awesome like that. But I definitely don’t mean to open up a can of worms and go through this fight one last time.
Cool. I’m not even following these games, or even the game-by-game results. It helps me avoid the pitfall of reading anything into the Spring results.
Plus Espino’s obvious paucity of clutch is just too much for me to take.
No, really, I just don’t care about how these games go. I like to hear that players are healthy and making progress on whatever it is they’re supposed to work on. In a way it’s nice to not have to care about these outcomes…
On the other hand, I’m more ready to start caring about some actual outcomes.
Which means the Broncos have the 12th and 18th overall. I can’t believe they won’t come after Quinn with one of those picks, don’t you think?
Well they did trade for Orton, he played fairly well last year
Hopefully the Browns won’t move Quinn unless they get a package that they shouldnt pass up
I was all about keeping the 5th, drafting the best defensive player available, and getting the 17th from the Jets in a three-teamer with Denver by giving Denver Quinn, and taking Mauluga (I am NOT looking up the spelling) from USC. This would have made me happy.
Going forward I prefer Quinn, but I prefer defense too.
Also! That Iowa RB intrigues me. Greene?
Steel Nick
Well, no. And if we’re moving to a ball-control offense Quinn seems to be the guy for it. I imagine DA is pretty useless in a no-receiver running game.
I just want like 35 picks on Draft Day.
Steel Nick
I’ll bet you’re a Hanukah over Christmas type.

Both of these statements are true. But this should tell you something:
I would be pretty thrilled if the Browns went 3-13.
I want them to pick Anderson.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
That seems very pessimistic. The team won 4 games last year, but only after both QBs got hurt and they blew leads against Balt, Denver, and Indy….and with an undisciplined coach.
I am thinking they are a .500 team right now with good health
with Quinn, yeah, they might be.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
I like this idea. Of course someone has to give a 2nd rounder for DA and we’d have to use one of those new picks for a WR to replace Braylon.
Steel Nick
and we’d have to use one of those new picks for a WR to replace Braylon.
I’m confused. You want like Hakeem Nicks or Heyward-Bey at 36?
Well that’s kind of my point. I don’t want to use a draft pick, especially a high one, for a WR when I would much rather plug holes in the defense and even bolstering the O-line and RB positions. To me WR is pretty unimportant this year, because a) It’s a step-back year anyway, and b) Mangini seems to favor a ball-control offense.
What I was saying earlier is I love the idea of collecting extra draft picks (in a Braylon trade), but dislike the idea of then having to use one of those picks to replace Braylon.
I’m not paid to make these decisions. It’s an interesting scenario for the brain trust and I think this draft will be fun to watch.
Steel Nick
