Traded RHP Edward Mujica to the San Diego Padres for a Player to be Named Later
Once upon a time, this right-handed reliever dominated minor-league hitters; in 2006, he gave up 0 earned runs in a 19-inning stretch in Akron, then did very well in Buffalo (33 IP, 29 SO, 5 BB), and finished off his season with a solid 18.3 innings with the Indians.
After that things just weren't same. He got several opportunities for spot work in 2007, but didn't stick around long for any of them. Last season his stays were longer, not because he was any better, but because everyone else in the bullpen was just as bad.
Now he's gone, and largely forgotten, traded appropriately for a player to be named later. He was out of options, and was knocked around pretty good in Spring Training (10.0 IP, 13 H, 9 ER, 5 HR), so the only questions left to be answered were how and when the Indians would part ways with him.
Assigned RHP Vinnie Chulk to Minor League Camp
Vinnie was one of the bright spots of camp, outpitching his competitors for the bullpen. But the Indians, with their shaky rotation, were looking for more length in their seventh reliever, so Vinnie will start the season in Columbus. If he isn't in the majors by mid-May, he becomes a free agent, so I would imagine he's the first up should there be an injury or ineffectiveness. Or when the Indians release Masa Kobayashi.
RHP Jae Kuk Ryu Assigned back to the San Diego Padres; Indians Waiver Claim Voided by Major League Baseball
The Indians apparently didn't think Ryu was physically ready to pitch, so they pulled the plug on the waiver claim. The Padres have since released him.

In next year’s annual, I’m expecting a Mujica or even a subtle Mujica.
This would do though:
“… but before the season started, Edward Mujica’s name was crossed off of the roster, netting surprising World Series MVP John Doe as the PTBNL.”
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
O/T: Buster Olney calls our early schedule a “meat grinder”. All 21 of our games against the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays are in the first two months of the season.
For some reason, my first thought was “farewell Masa”. As if that was a novel thought.
I refuse to ever root for a team that routinely does the MVP chant for opposing players.

Those poor bastards in New York, Boston, and Tampa will never see it coming until it’s too late.

One time at a trial in a major products liability case, the judge struck our client’s answer and defenses because of some procedural faux pas. For the few non-lawyers who visit this site, I’ll tell you that this is a bad thing, a REALLY bad thing.
The owner of this multimillion dollar company who was sitting in the gallery behind the counsel table nervously tapped my boss on shoulder and asked what was going on. He leaned back and whispered out of the corner of his mouth.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got them right where we want them.”
I would tell Mr. Olney the same thing.
"It's hard to win when you don't score." Cliff Lee, 9/28/05.
Well, I guess we’ll just have to make sausage.

By the way, when did he start going by Edward?
Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

It’s not noted among Ryan’s transactions, but on a sad note for this site, Lastoria reports that Cirilo Cumberbatch has been released.
