I always wonder what MLB.tv subscribers who are out-of-market viewers of the STO feed think of Underwood and Manning.
Most of my friends who are fans of other teams tell me they find them relatively inoffensive, but boring. Easy to tune out.

Somehow, I don’t feel that hitting a ball that is caught in front of the wall in left field qualifies as “almost hitting a grand slam.”
He hits a ton and has a cannon?

You know what would be cool? If Asdrubal turned into some kind of monster hitter. That would be cool.

It was incredible last year, too. Check out this 48-game stretch from last season. He’s batting .204, slugging .282 — so nobody is afraid of getting hurt — yet he’s got a 14.5% walk rate. It was ridiculous.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
But was it because he was not a cool person? I can’t imagine a constant top hat being a negative by itself.
It’s a cause and effect. There is maybe one cool person ever who actually wants to wear a top hat constantly.
I was him for Halloween once. A friend of mine went as Axl.

I really can’t in any way objectively discuss his coolness or uncoolness. I do believe he has stopped wearing the tophat and also gotten a haircut at this point.
I just enjoy people who can commit to something like that. A guy I went to school with would always wear a camouflage jacket, and would carry a bottle of Tobasco sauce in his inner pocket. He would proceed to take it out and drink it at random times. Once in the weight room he was going to town on a punching bag, while still wearing this jacket. He then unzipped it, and took out an entire loaf of bread. He ate two slices, drank some Tobasco sauce, put them back, and got back to punching. He is a legend.
If?

Hey guys unrelated question: So you know those hats that the old-timey campaigners/politicians would wear? What would you call that? (for google/purchasing purposes)
sort of! it’s got a flat top, but it’s white and not really a tall hat.

If it’s a very far ride, sweat can become an issue when biking to work if there isn’t a shower there, but if that won’t be an issue, I absolutely recommend it. Healthy AND utilitarian!
~6 miles, but I’d sweat if it was .25 miles. But no worries, we have a shower!

That’s about how far my old workplace was from my old apartment. The only issue for me was how early I had to wake up to get there on time because I am sloooow. (Like, Victor slow.) But even doing it once a week was really good. It’s kind of weird showering at work, though.
Fortunately, we have a very liberal arrival policy

so shocked, I might add, that I actually remember the exact moment. You know how important events in your lifetime, you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing? Like when the Challenger blew up or 9/11? Well I vividly remember seeing that picture of Brandon Phillips on the Baseball America website and being totally flabbergasted. Not sure what that says about me.

So last night I finally got around to watching some Babylon 5. The best part was when some dude was reading a newspaper on actual newsprint. IN SPACE. In 2258. That was pretty great.
Of course, I’m the person who is watching through the original BSG on Netflix and enjoying the hell out of it, so cheese is relative.
It depends on what episodes you watched. If it was in the middle of the season, it might seem boring because you wouldn’t know what was going on.
[redacted]
Hmm, yeah, I can see why. It took a bit to get rolling. Even then, some things didn’t make sense until later.
I know, it sounds like the sort of thing that requires a lot of investment, a la Lost, but once you get maybe 5-6 episodes in, most are hooked.
[redacted]
Yeah, it’s really boring. People just buy into the aesthetic. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s not my bag.

Some group of 7th graders started a Students Saving Orangutans club and one of the big things is don’t eat palm oil because that somehow leads to orang deaths (this is well documented, I swear).
So, some other kid starts a palm oil eating group and they just get together and find things that use palm oil and eat them.
I mean, they’re in 7th grade. This is all play time to them orangutan savers included. None of them have a real strong ethical footing.
People who don’t work with kids tend to overrate their own middle school experiences in terms of maturity. The only moments most people remember are those that were of rare clarity and then, extrapolating, they assume they were mostly clear and intentioned.
In actuality, middle schoolers cry a lot.
Really? Most people think they were mature in middle school? All us college age kids remember middle school as the worst times of our lives, complete with our own personal immaturity.
I was definitely not mature in middle school. I am still not mature.

For some reason I thought you taught high school, so I’d have expected a bit more maturity.
To be honest the undergrads I see every day now seem like kids to me, so I can’t imagine working with 13 year olds.
It may just be my own conceit, but I really can’t communicate with the age group that’s currently in high school and younger. I feel like they speak txt and DS. Possibly kids who are older than me felt the same way.
