Parking around the P(redacted) question
So I'm driving into town from Richmond on Friday after I take a test in the morning, literally hopping in the car and pulling into a parking spot by the stadium and walking right in hopefully at first pitch. It's about 8 hours from here to there and my test ends at 10:50 AM.
Due to these time frames, any advice from locals on where to park. I don't necessarily need the best deal, but things I'm looking for:
-knowing there's a spot available
-easy access from the interstate (not sure how I'm getting there yet...but from the South)
That's about all...appreciate the help.

The “Pro” or the “P” if you need a nickname. Why more people don’t jump on the fact that we could have the “P” and the “Q” right next to each other is beyond me.

There are a lot of garages right around the stadium itself – given that it’s April, sub-500 baseball and it’s Cleveland, they won’t be full. Or you could park in Tower City and walk through the catwalk that connects the stadium to TC. The garage on Huron and e6th is probably the closest, yeah? (it’s literally connected to the stadium).

any idea how much this usually runs?

I parked in a lot across the street from the Q for 10 bucks for the 2007 Father’s Day game (Awesome Carmona start as I recall). Not a long walk.
Other game, in September, parked in a lot that was East of the Carnegie/Ontario corner. Again, 10 bucks there. Walk 3 blocks past the cemetary to the Jake.

If you are looking for value and closeness, I would say Tower City.
Sometimes I like to get off at the E.21st exit (no traffic). Drive it all the way up to Superior, then head west until I hit E. 9th. There is a parking garage there that usually runs about 5-10 bucks (depending on the day).
Then it’s a short 5-6 block walk to the stadium. On your way there, you can grab some beer/food at Panini’s or a couple dive bars that are on E. 9th.

Make that E. 22nd exit to get off of.

Tower City in a jam will always have spots. If I don’t have time to look elsewhere this is what I do.

What am I exiting from at E22nd, interstate wise?

I was a big fan of the $3 parking about only a quarter to a half mile further down than where that church had parking

This was back in the late 90’s/early 00’s though, so not sure if things have changed. If someone could help me out on street names too, it’s been awhile

Park somewhere close to the Rapid and take it downtown. It’s cheaper, and it’s always good to patronize RTA.

I’d recommend this, but no if you’re stressed out and pissed after an 8 hour car ride. If you go this route – you can park right across the river by the West Side Market and catch the red line (I believe).

Personally, I’d prefer to not have to deal with getting in/out of a crowded lot after an 8 hour ride. But yeah, you’re correct — Red Line from Ohio City.

Exactly! If you’re going to Case, take the shuttle to the Rapid at University Circle. It’s about 20 minutes from there to Tower City and another 15 to the park.

Better yet, just find a spot in on the street on Murray Hill Rd. or park in one of the Case lots (free on weekends, they don’t check permits, I don’t think) and take the Rapid from Cedar or E. 120th. Then it’s a short walk from Tower City station to the ballpark.

fellas, if he takes the RTA advice, he’ll be lucky to get down there just in time for the bullpen implosion.

I ride the Rapid in to the game every time I go. There’s one every 20 minutes without fail.
by Voltaire on Apr 22, 2009 12:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
the point is, he’ll be late. his ETA in Cleveland is 6:50 p.m. at best. if he wants to see first pitch, driving into downtown is the better option.

i second this. 25 minute RTA ride from brookpark > spending an extra 15 minutes driving into the city and paying for parking

i agree that for those of us already in the area, the rapid’s a great option; I take the green line myself more than half the time.
it’s just that for someone who’s already on the freeway coming in from out of town, it doesn’t make sense to venture into the suburbs to park and take a 15-20 minute rail ride and have the same walk that you’d have had you parked in Tower City yourself.

I have never taken the green or blue lines, actually. Are the cars newer/different?

on the weekends, the cars usually have the nice, plushy seats. it’s a nice comfortable ride and best when you’re not on any schedule. That’s why i typically take the rapid for weekend games but drive during the week.

Plus, if he’s coming from Richmond, it probably means that he’ll be coming up I-77. No handy Rapid access along that route.
by doowop on Apr 22, 2009 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Bingo. Exactly where I park when i drive. Relatively cheap, close, and easy access getting back to the eastside if you don’t need to get on I-90.

I think we’re taking RTA in for the Saturday game, but we’re cutting it close timewise on Friday, so I think we’re just going to slide into a parking garage and pay the fee.

that does sound like you can be in close proximity to one important game component….how close is that to the P?

a mile maybe. i’ve walked it but they have a free shuttle you can take to and from.

yeah, but that would be the implied whole reason for parking over there.

I usually get off at the 15th/22nd street exit, and park one of the smaller parking lots on the right-hand side of 15th Street. If you time it right (or if you’re not in a hurry), getting back on I-77 isn’t a problem after the game.
by Ryan on Apr 22, 2009 12:33 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
and you can hop on the freeway a lot easier if you head east on prospect, grabbing it just past 22nd i think. you may be backtracking a bit, but less traffic heading that way than picking it up at 14th past Carnegie.

I get off at the E. 9th exit and take a right, take a right (on Carnegie) at the BP that sits across from the Jake. Just past the Radisson there is $10 parking and it is no more than a five minute walk to the gate. I’ve been parking there since 1996 and it has always had spots.
I never learned to read.

Absolutely. I laugh when I get into Hopkins and see people heading for the parking lot. That’s my favorite thing about National Airport down here… it’s a blessing to have mass transit that runs right to the airport.

what do west siders and east siders do when the rumble, have a smarm-off?
by Brick. on Apr 24, 2009 5:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s a good question. I’d like to know.
I come from a mixed background.
My Dad’s and his family are from the east side, my Mom from a rural area closer to Akron, and our family home is on the west side.
by jhon on Apr 24, 2009 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lakewood and Old River shouldn’t count as westside, or should get a special asterisk or somethin.
by joeee on Apr 24, 2009 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was born in Berea, grew up in Cleveland proper, all the way on the west side, on Baltic Ave (between Detroit and Clifton), near W104th. just east of Lakewood.
After dad divorced mom, he moved to Brookpark, hence his 5 minutes from the airport.
by talonk on Apr 25, 2009 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Oh, and where I lived on Baltic, was considered poor middle class in the 70s, and is probably the same or worse now.
And where my dad lives in Brookpark ain’t pretty either, between the Ford plants, etc. Another rundown neighborhood.
So no, I was not middle class or rich growing up. But unfortunately, since I am not a mill-kid from the east side, I’ll always be elitist in your eyes I guess.
by talonk on Apr 25, 2009 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Whoa there dude, didn’t say nothin’ about elitism, did I? Didn’t mean to if I did.
Here, let’s play this game: Drew Carey? West side kid. Terence Howard? East side kid. Martin Mull? Westside kid. Fred Willard? Eastside kid. Dennis Kucinich? Westside kid George Stephanopolous? Eastside kid.
If there’s a pattern here, it’s hard to find. Us Eastsiders always thought that we had all the culture on our side of town. When I moved to Parma I found that there was a lot of great stuff on the Westside too.
Just funnin’ with you dude.

No probs chuck, just seemed like the tone of West side kid comment seemed to me like you were looking down on me since I wasn’t from your neck of the woods … it’s all cool.
I lived 30 years in Cali, so I consider myself more Californian at heart, but my sports heart is and will always be with the Tribe, Browns, Cavs and Buckeyes. I do follow a few other teams: Astros, Buccaneers, my alma mater Cal Poly Mustangs, and the Coyotes and Sharks in hockey, but none of them heavily.

By the way, we hauled ass coming into town and got here around 6 instead of seven, so we were able to park at the hotel. Didn’t think we’d have time to check in, but we made it to the poor offensive excuse of a game last night.
