I would’ve been really pissed if Crisp had bunted for a hit there.

Eric Wedge. The Adam LaRoche of managers.

Outs are not the problem; they’ve gotten 145 of those. Runs are the problem.

I don’t think I’ve ever thought of it this way.

Can someone explain how Graff got to home on a bunt when he was originally on second after a double?

by Tribe Alive on Apr 23, 2009 2:32 PM EDT reply actions

Francisco bunted him over, but the pitcher fielded it & threw it away. The 2B was backing up well & threw him out at home.

by zempf on Apr 23, 2009 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Bunt single, throw to first, got away, Graff tried to go home on the throw, 2B was backing up the play and got the ball, fired to home to get Graff.

Garko was at 1B, but Graffanino pinch-ran for him (poorly). Crowe was in RF, but Hafner pinch-hit for him. Since Hafner in RF is not something I ever want to imagine, they moved DeRosa out to RF, Graffanino to 3B, Victor from C to 1B, and Shoppach in to catch.

Where Have I Heard This Before?
GM Kevin Towers hauled out his Penn and Teller magic act and pulled a whole new bullpen out of his hat in the last week of spring training. “With a couple of weeks to go, my wife asked me if it was going to be tough to get down to 25,” Towers said. “I said, ‘Down to 25? I’m trying to get up to 25.’” Three trades, a waiver claim and two signings of released pitchers later, he had himself a whole new set-up crew and a fifth starter (Shawn Hill). So naturally, the Padres were fifth in the league in bullpen ERA through Tuesday. Incredible.
