Yeah, you’re right, we should push him hard and risk having him be completely ineffective for the rest of the year, like he was last year. THAT WOULD BE SO SMART.

Gotta be Swingers. WC is hilarious but ventures into this fake pathos thing to make the plot tie together. Swingers is funny because it’s truthful, and brutally so. Just for the answering machine sequence alone, it’s gotta be Swingers.

Ben Francisco: An Outfielder only on baseball cards and roster sheets.
Wakefield’s been unhittable this year. Also, the zone is huge today for him , and C.B. Bucknor is on my list of perpetually bad homeplate umpires.

I need Trevor Crowe to stop swinging at everything. His two walks on the year just aren’t going to cut it.
hopefully he just needs some time to adjust, because his patience in the minors was one of the things people were so excited about.

debate over a fair/foul call on the 3B line
by JulioBernazard on Apr 27, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Mike Lowell looked struck out, umps rules it a foul tip in the dirt before Vic caught it. Then hit a ball foul that looked really fair to DeRosa. Wedge was all “FIRE ME” and got tossed.

by nickjs21 on Apr 27, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Lee threw a pitch that was foul tipped and short hopped into Shoppach’s glove. Lee and Shoppach started off the field as if Shoppach caught it, but the first base umpire said it hit the dirt. Wedge came out and complained. Same batter, he hit a grounder toward third. DeRosa caught it and stepped on third and headed off the field, but the umpire said it was foul. Then Cliffy struck him out.

by JulioBernazard on Apr 27, 2009 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions
1) Lowell fouled off a curveball, players started leaving field, then first base umpire said it hit the ground before Shoppach caught it.
2) Next pitch, Lowell grounds one. DeRosa hangs back, grabs it, steps on third for the final out. Homeplate umpire calls it foul. Not sure whether it really was. DeRosa irate. Wedge irate. Wedge gets toosed.
3) Strikeout. Curveball. Previous two pitches go down in history as exactly that—two meaningless pitches.

What just happened? Golfer was pretty much doing pbp.
Ben Francisco: An Outfielder only on baseball cards and roster sheets.
Fair ball down 3B line, home plate ump usurped and called it foul. This was one pitch after 1B over-ruled home ump on foul tip.

Underwood’s comments seemed really dumb there. Wedge wasn’t blowing off steam, he was getting himself tossed because his players would expect him to fight for them to the point of getting tossed.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong. My understanding is that if DeRosa grabs it before it passes the bag, then it has to be a fair ball because of the last bounce. It’s only based on “over the plane of the bag” if it actually passes the bag.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I am pretty sure this is correct.
Ben Francisco: An Outfielder only on baseball cards and roster sheets.
So … did he actually grab it before it left the infield?
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
It looked to me like it was slightly inside the line, but that make no difference. Anyway, if it was the way you said, then it should have been called fair, I believe.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
