That’s obviously awful news. He was so young.

Guy pitched well, so I checked out his player page last night.
Was totally shocked when I woke up. I guess his #s aren’t really important.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

Just awful. Saw him pitch two weeks ago in AZ.

Really terrible news – cars can be very scary. Something about a pro-athlete dying is uniquely tragic – there is actually a really good AE Housman poem called “To An Athlete Dying Young” for anyone interested.

Apparently, the accident was caused by a piece of **** who ran a red light with his van, slammed into the Mitsubishi Adenhart was in and then tried to flee the scene on foot. Police caught him, though, and now he faces felony hit-and-run charges, too.

Terrible news. Feels weird looking up that he pitched well last night. Tragic. And sad.

Very sad, wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear that alcohol played a role in this.

And the news is even worse, the driver of the van that ran the red light ,fled the scene of the accident on foot, was driving the vehicle on a suspended license because of a previous drunken driving conviction.
So sad …….

Senseless.
Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

This is very sad news – I was stunned when I heard about it earlier today.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, and to the families and friends of the two others who also died in that accident. Thoughts and prayers also go out to the one who is in critical condition, though he is expected to fully recover.
I fully suspect the 22-YO who caused this accident will be imprisoned for life with no parole, so he shouldn’t have the opportunity to cause something like this ever again.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.

Certainly possible. The sentence under California law for the vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, given the previous DUI, is 15 years to life. The felony hit-and-run can add up to 4 more years, with a few more for the DUI itself. Probably not without the possibility of parole, however, given that the habitual offender law doesn’t apply (the infamous three strikes law) to the previous DUIs.

Don’t think it deserves its own Fanshot, but Lastoria’s site has a moving piece from Vinnie Pestana (AA closer) about the accident.

Reminds me of another Angels player in the wrong place after a game. Lyman Bostock was murdered in 1978.
