I’m really rooting for the Valbuena thing, as it gives our infield a whole lot more versatility. He’s like a younger, more talented Jamey Carroll.
Me too. I have (likely delusional) visions of a 2010 World Championship infield that goes Peralta-Cabrera-Valbuena-Martinez/Garko from left to right, with Shoppach and Martinez splitting time behind the plate and Santana getting some big at bats late in the season as a call-up.
Also, I’d have a pony.

nice town to live, our school district pays well, just not much to do. We have the rockies rookie level club, and drive to rockies games are only 4 hours, try to make that trip 3 or 4 weekends.
Of all the broadcast teams I have to here, I find detroit’s to be the least annoying. The rangers, and royals drive me nuts. The twins aren’t bad either.
Sweet. Live game thread for the first time in a week or so.
And, Dellucci. Can we swear in pregame threads?

If you mean the actual play and not the Sportsline screw up, it was a slow, high bouncer to second, Cabrera cut over to take it, and tried to go to second but didn’t have time, so he pivoted and threw off balance (think sort of a fadeaway, turnaround jumper in basketball) to first, and overthrew the pitcher by a good 5 feet.

Vic booted the groundball on a tough hop. He tried to pick it up and tag the runner as the runner went to first base. Runner jumped over the tag and the bag. He never touched the base. Vic covered first, and Pavano flipped it to Vic. It was a force out.
Somehow, the one guy whose job it is to watch and see whether the batter touches the base didn’t watch.
No, Victor was in the process of tagging him.

I can’t replay, but I don’t think I’d call what Victor was doing “picking it up and swiping at him.” But in looking over the rules, they pretty clearly say that the fielder has the “right of way” except in some egregious situations, so no. No idea why the runner was safe.

I have to say, even from the first week of the season, I always thought the rotation would be okay. But when I would say that, I couldn’t help but think off that one guy from the barbershop in Coming To America — the one who wasn’t Eddie or Arsenio — and the three of them go to see Randy Watson and his band Sexual Chocolate doing a horrendous cover of “The Greatest Love Of All”, and everyone knows he’s terrible … except that one guy from the barbershop, who keeps insisting “That boy’s good, he’s got talent!” while his friends roll their eyes.
So what I’m saying is, I wondered if I wasn’t that third guy from the barbershop … and the rotation was Randy Watson.
