I think the more likely move is the Indians wanting to keep Sowers on his normal rest and him starting tonight for Columbus. Laffey moving back to the rotation and Vizcaino joining the bullpen. We shall see…

But why scratch Ohka and start Saarloos in the 11:35 game (that probably won’t start at 11:35 due to weather)?

Sometimes, I just like to b****.

I don’t think Ohka is coming up because it would mean clearing a spot on both the 25 and 40-man rosters. Admittedly, that could be done by jettisoning Masa, but I’d be surprised. Ohka has done well in Columbus so far, but does anyone else have nightmares about how he looked in spring training?

by APV on May 14, 2009 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes. The choices are Ohka (not on the 40), Jackson (not great numbers in Columbus), and Laffey (in pen). I don’t like any of these.

by dgcambridge on May 14, 2009 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

And of course, Huff. But the Indians recent comments about Huff suggest that they want to give him more time to work on his control.

by dgcambridge on May 14, 2009 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions

man, i think ohka is the one guy i’d rather see less than sowers.

by Brick. on May 14, 2009 11:03 AM EDT reply actions

No. Not gonna happen.

No, not you. Your helmet!

by PatBordersHelmet on May 14, 2009 11:09 AM EDT reply actions

How about

Ohka to the pen, cut Masa.

Laffey to the rotation … Vizcaino in the bullpen.

That’s what makes the most sense to me.

by FallsTribeFan on May 14, 2009 11:18 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, I think this may be the winner.

by dgcambridge on May 14, 2009 11:21 AM EDT up reply actions

i’ll agree with you a second time

(heads up, no need for subject lines here)

by Brick. on May 14, 2009 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

How about not using the subject line?

No, not you. Your helmet!

by PatBordersHelmet on May 14, 2009 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, but you gotta admit, guy comes out of nowhere with a pretty astute post.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Sure. I agree with the post and hope this is the scenario. Just trying save some eyes. I’ve been a bit testy with all the .300 ball lately, but I’m sure I’m not the only one with frayed nerves in here.

No, not you. Your helmet!

and not very well … as you can see!

I’ll get the hang of it!

by FallsTribeFan on May 14, 2009 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions

You’re lucky it was me and not someone like, say, Jay.

Welcome aboard.

Which Falls are you referring to?

No, not you. Your helmet!

by PatBordersHelmet on May 14, 2009 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions

Cuyahoga.

And I’m getting yelled at in the other thread too … that’ll learn me!

Was encouraged to check this place out as a “more rational” place to talk Tribe.

So here I be.

by FallsTribeFan on May 14, 2009 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions

It’ll pass. Welcome.

Just curious, where did you get the recommendation to come here?

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions

I’ve posted in the cleveland.com forums for a little while now … and it just gets a little too snarky for someone who wants to discuss the game with a little more seriousness.

One of the better posters there recommended I check this place out.

And thanks to all above who are welcoming me!

by FallsTribeFan on May 14, 2009 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m not sure snarky is the right word.

Agreed. You could plug in “overtly racist” for just about any cleveland.com comments section.

No, not you. Your helmet!

by PatBordersHelmet on May 14, 2009 12:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Ha!

I wasn’t gonna go there.

There are some good posters … but it just gets overflown with “Sowers sucks” type posts … I’m interested in a little deeper discussion of WHY Sowers sucks!

by FallsTribeFan on May 14, 2009 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions

You have come to the right place.

May you never feel the need to wallow in the swamp of cleveland.com comments again.

No, not you. Your helmet!

by PatBordersHelmet on May 14, 2009 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions

This is a good way of putting it. There is close to a consensus that Sowers sucks. Some here have done yeoman’s work telling me why he sucks

by Roger Dorn on May 14, 2009 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions

At least we’re making an effort.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions

WTF is that supposed to mean?

Nobody looks for the upside in a new user more than I do.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

I think everyone here loves you. You are the Big Toe of LGT.

I’m no Sgt. Hulka compared to you. I’m just warning a newbie that you are one not to be trifled with.

How many push-ups do want me to do in the rain?

No, not you. Your helmet!

by PatBordersHelmet on May 14, 2009 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions

PBH is conflating all user interface instead of parsing out new user – Jay interaction specifically.

by Brick. on May 14, 2009 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Ah. Well let me be specific about the agenda, and I’ll think the actions are pretty consistent thereof.

The agenda is to boost both readership and the number of active contributors as high as possible.

I am appreciative and encouraging of anyone who cares to join us here, which supports the agenda.

I treat those who are anti-social with disdain, which also supports the greater agenda. In other words, certain users are banned or dressed-down in the best interest of having other new users.

We now have possibly a too-established and too-arcane set of rules and courtesies which can be forbidding to new users. I’m as responsible for this as anyone, and I’m not even saying it’s a bad thing on balance. But it does require that we recognize the high barrier and take care not to chase away people who could be a great part of our community, just because they didn’t know the secret handshake (or whatever).

In sum … despite my justifiably burly reputation, I would never have greeted FallsTribeFan with anything but welcome and encouragement.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Jay … no biggie either way.

I’m here … and now know the 2 most important rules of posting!

We’re all good … let’s play some baseball (and win a few!)

by FallsTribeFan on May 14, 2009 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions

the most important rule, you jumped out of the gate with your first comment. and that was contributing to the discussion. i think and hope you nailed what the plan is.

by Brick. on May 14, 2009 11:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I’m glad he didn’t walk in and a) start a fanpost or b) not use the reply button and post something unrelated to the discussion

Also! It is our tradition here to have the same conversation in two places at the same time. Like being at a party and walking back and forth between two rooms with the same conversation and same people.

Looking forward to reading this again, in another thread.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions

That explanation wasn’t necessarily for your benefit. It’s important that everyone here understands that while we’re not nice to every single person, and we do have standards … there is a reason behind the things that we do, and we DO want to welcome new contributors. Even if some people just think it’s funny when I start wailing on some dude.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Perhaps we need to get in contact with SportsNation IT and get them to push out the “disable subject line on site-by-site basis” flag a little faster?

Ok, let’s say Ohka is coming to Cleveland.

When would he pitch?

Tomorrow, giving Reyes some of the extra rest the team has expressed they want to give him? (With Reyes pitching in Jeremy’s spot)

An interesting update in Casto’s blog reported that Masa was on the plane to Tampa last night indicating that they were going to put him in the pen tonight.

Going with your hypothetical, it would make sense to plug Ohka in sooner than later, but you’d think if they wanted him to pitch Friday they’d want him on a plane to Florida today. Considering there’s a double header in Columbus his name would visibly drop from the roster sometime today. Othwerwise, he’d likely take Sower’s scheduled start on Sunday after Pavano pitches on Saturday. This way Shapiro can look at the bullpen vrs. the Rays bats and most importantly the new guy before making the decision to bring Ohka up. I imagine if the ‘pen sees alot of work today or tomorrow, we’ll know the fate of Masa.

No, not you. Your helmet!

by PatBordersHelmet on May 14, 2009 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Wait, that Masa was on the plane lat night, or that Tomo was?

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Masa was on the plane. Castro thought he was going to be cut.

by APV on May 14, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Castro has predicted that Masa will be cut about three times a week since early March. I can just imagine the dirty looks Masa is giving him.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on May 14, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe a trip to the DL is in store for Masa-san.

by jhon on May 14, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions

the Dominican League seems a bit extreme. I’m sure he could cut it in the Eastern League.

by APV on May 14, 2009 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Can someone tell me why we all think Ohka is destined for the big leagues? I tend to think he won’t be called up anytime soon because of his lack of talent

by Roger Dorn on May 14, 2009 3:16 PM EDT reply actions

He was moved from game 1 of a doubleheader to game 2, that’s all. The not-knowing all the details of the second game fueled our speculative fire.

Sometimes, I just like to b****.

by emd2k3 on May 14, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

everyone who went and added him to their fantasy teams can go drop him now.

I would add to “lack of talent” “general effectiveness as a baseball pitcher.”
