Couple no-hitters going on.

Sonnanstine sucks. We should have 20 by now.

We're really bad this year. How's that for a signature?

So assuming Wedge gets fired, how well would an LGT consensus do managing this team? In the end we usually come to an agreement on most things, no?
I’m afraid we wouldn’t find enough at-bats for gritty veterans.

The Dodgers are stupid for letting Kershaw stay in the game. He’s over 100 pitches and he’s been wild.

Makes sense that Francisco, Carroll and Dellucci would be fired up with Wedge’s job possibly on the line. If Blake were still on the club, he’d probably hit five home runs.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

And Lee according to multiple media sources.

I find it very hard to believe the Indians will trade a starting pitcher with a year left on his contract. I don’t see any scenario in which the team doesn’t view itself as a serious contender in 2010, but they need Lee on the team to do so.
We are lacking some serious pitching for 2010.
Lee
Carmona (Who is a massive question mark)
Westbrook
Laffey
Huff
I’m not sure that’s a contending staff.

So if you would’ve told me at the end of 2008 that our bullpen on May 17 would include Matt Herges, Luis Viczaino, Greg Aquino and Aaron Laffey….yeah I’d say we were in trouble.
Hell what am I saying, if you would’ve told me that on Opening Day 2009, I’d say we were in deep trouble.

No offence, random Japanese people with your flags, but you’re ridiculous. That’s basically like me being in Boston for a Red Sox game, and bringing Canadian flags because Jason Bay is playing. See? It’s ridiculous.
I don’t think that’s a fair analogy. Canada is in North America; there’s a baseball team there.
It would be like you living in Japan and some Americam (or Canadian) being involved in a very popular sport there and you cheering for him because you relate to him. Which, really doesn’t seem all that bizarre.
I could totally get into an American cricket player.

I would equate bringing Japanese flags for Iwamura to bringing an American flag because Bobby Valentine is coaching in Japan. Just doesn’t register for me.

by woodsmeister on May 17, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions
See this is where I want player accountability introduced into sports. Go ask Crawford what happened, and if he lies, suspend him after the game.
Well the big loophole in my idea is that the player can always claim he’s not sure what happened.
by supermarioelia on May 17, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s a judgment call. No rules were broken. The call, once made, is not subject to video review. I don’t believe we can play this game under protest. The best we can get is an apology after the fact.
by woodsmeister on May 17, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I thought it was a catch as well at first because I thought it hit his glove and came back and he caught it. But I’m not paid to make a call on my computer screen. So me being wrong doesn’t matter.

I honestly don’t even know what the rule is.
If it hits the wall, it can’t be an out, right?
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I think that’s the dispute. The umps are saying it never hit the wall, it just hit his glove, and he bobbled but eventually held onto it.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
yeah, that’s my understanding too…. from my memory of having seen it only the once, it seemed clear that it hit the wall though
by Logodaedalus on May 17, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions
No, no more than fielding the ball off the 17-foot wall is an out.

normally they would show a play like this over and over again ad nauseum…. On the Rays’ feed, at least, I haven’t yet seen a replay. I’m sure there was at least one, but…. I want to see it again, dammit!
Absolutely. No question. It hit beside Crawford’s glove, hit the top of the padding and then he caught it off the wall.
by woodsmeister on May 17, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions
I mean, even the Rays’ announcers indicated that TB got a break

by woodsmeister on May 17, 2009 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions
When it first happened, I thought it hit the wall. Underwood said it hit the wall. Manning said, “That’s a catch.” So, if Underwood and I could see it but Manning couldn’t, is that a clear-cut blown call?
Fine with me. I’m mentally punting Greinke anyway… why waste a better starter on him?

You could make the case that Wedge should be fired for failing to get tossed.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Yeah. Lou Piniella would have been throwing bases. Heck, Lou Brown would’ve been throwing bases.

At this point I don’t need anymore ammo in my case to have Wedge fired. Unfortunately, Judge Shapiro has it out for me and won’t let me in the courtroom.

So in other news… I’d really like to see a breakdown of bullpen performance when ahead or tied vs. behind….
These faceless vets seem to have acquired the skill of pitching well in blowouts. You know, after giving up that leadoff home run where necessary.

I remember clearly thinking, when Cliff got into that fight with Vic — specifically Vic — “That’s it, this guy has just got to be a total dickhead.” Come to think of it, Cliff may have come to the same conclusion about himself at that point.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
The weirdest part still is that Vic got all upset about Cliff throwing at Sammy Sosa. Who really cares about Sammy Sosa?
I don’t think throwing at Sosa specifically is what Vic was mad about.

I thought Cliff would be dead to me for a long time after that. Turns out, it doesn’t work that way.

“And now Wedge wants an ejection. He’s the one who should be ejected, because he brought Wood in to hit B.J. Upton! And that was premeditated!”
“Yeah, that was definitely premeditated.”
Just to be clear, Wedge is guilty of first-degree closer misdeployment, not merely third degree.

So when a team gets screwed all game, and the umps continue to screw us on close calls, they must just hate Wedge right?
Well, he made contact. A cycle would have been nice. Of course, then I’d have no reason ever to watch baseball again after the fulfillment of all of my dreams.
then vic coulda hit one and punched the catcher afterwards

Question about “days off” in baseball….is it really that taxing to pick up a bat and take like 5 swings? Please?
Physically, pretty taxing. Mentally, it takes a ton to focus every day, which compounds the physical exhaustion. Anyway, a single day off is huge. Two days in a row off doesn’t do anything.
What happened? I leave the room and everyone acts like there was a tease.
