Game 42: Cleveland 8, Kansas City 3
It is difficult to overstate how good Zack Greinke has been so far this season. In eight starts coming into today, he had average 7.5 innings, five hits, a little over a walk, and more than eight Ks. Oh yeah, and half a run. So it didn’t look great for Cleveland. And yet, at least some among us felt today was the day Cleveland would break through against Greinke. And in the early going, the Indians had chances. In the first, Asdrubal made it to 2nd with one out, but Victor and Choo both struck out to leave him stranded. In the second innning, Ben Francisco got himself to 3rd with a 2-out triple, but Shoppach could not get him in. In the third, the top of the order managed to get two runs in and loaded the bases with one out, but again were thwarted by back to back Ks, these from DeRosa and Francisco. In the fourth, the Indians had Cabrera and Sizemore on first and second with two outs and again failed to bring home any additional runs.
Meanwhile, after a shaky first inning involving two doubles and a wild pitch, which yielded two runs, Carl Pavano gradually began to settle down. After allowing a run in the third, Pavano managed to go three additional inning only facing the minimum batters. Pavano also put up good strikeout numbers for the second consecutive outing, taking down 8 Royals via the K versus just two walks.
It was not until the seventh that the Indians managed to take the lead, however, and like seemingly every Indians offensive story this season, it involved a combination of Asdrubal Cabrera, Victor Martinez and Shin-Soo Choo. And in this case, Jhonny Peralta pitched in with the go-ahead RBI double. Four runs in the eighth, which seemed like insurance runs at the time, ended up being unnecessary. The Indians patchwork bullpen featured scoreless outings this afternoon from Luis Vizcaino, Matt Herges, and a save from Rafael Betancourt. And as a nice change, the bullpen decided to throw strikes; fifteen of nineteen pitches for Vizcaino and three of four (in an impressively painless ninth) for Betancourt.

Yes, Arroyo on Friday, and Homer Bailey on Saturday. That’s from the Reds’ SBN site, which is just like ours except with more male nudity and subject lines.
Arroyo and then Bailey, but really, does our success or failure seem to have anything to do with the other team’s pitcher?

I’m going to speak for all the mods here in saying that:
1-There is no standard form for a recap
2-If something is missing that you like, just go get it and post it as a comment. We have generally not made an active choice to not include it; it simply wasn’t included.
This isn’t by any means a call out of you, V, just letting people know that it’s not really worth asking a question like this. There’s not ever going to be an answer other than: “Eh”, “Forgot”, etc.
THE LINE ENDS ON OUR HALF!!!

Two straight comebacks after being down heading to the 7th inning. This matches the YTD total before Wednesday.

Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.

I’m feeling uneasy about this weekend.
The Indians have favorable pitching matchups, they are swinging really well going into a hitter’s park and the Reds are dismal at home this year (something like 8-13).
You know how baseball works.
It would be nice to wake up some morning this season and not be in last place.

Hey everyone! Great win yesterday. Winning a game that Greinke was starting in is a huge accomplishment. Not sure if I will be here rooting on the Indians today or not. If so, you will know why.

Good God. I’m off the webs/TV for five days to graduate and move, and I miss: a Wood blown save and a not-blown save; a win against Greinke; a series win; a Peavy trade that wasn’t; a perfect game(!); a Cavs loss; and a new Levin. The gods have gone crazy!

INDIANS: 2B Asdrubal Cabrera, CF Grady Sizemore, C Victor Martinez, RF Shin-Soo Choo, SS Jhonny Peralta, 3B Mark DeRosa, 1B Ryan Garko, LF Ben Francisco, RHP Anthony Reyes (1-1, 6.88).
Is that tonight’s line-up? I wish I could read that yesterday’s line-up was also tonight’s line-up, changing only the starter.
