I read an article the other day in which BJ Upton said that Carl Crawford has the best chance of anyone in the majors to bat .400 for a season at some point in his career
Not if he keeps popping out while bunting he doesn’t.

I was under the impression that pitchers who can barely tap 90 are supposed to throw nothing but strikes

Yeah. Pretty sure the whole site will shut down until our numbers can reset.
I believe in Carl Pavano.
Cute.
I have no power to command the site, but you have the power to bore me away from reading along.
This is not about me, really. Once I’ve stopped reading, how many others have also left?
I’m not so vain as to feel offended by this. Few people care about this place as much as I do and I call attention to this stuff because I don’t want to see the overall quality taken for granted. Some of the more senior figures have evolved in their lives and posting habits, and it’ll be up to the newer posters to keep this joint above the cle.com basis.
Again, sorry. This is one of my only outlets to talk to Cleveland fans so I care about it too. I don’t think any harm was meant. I don’t what you mean by cle.com. If you mean the plain dealer website I feel like this isn’t really close.
Yeah, LGT is not in the same universe as cleveland.com on its worst day.
Hyperbole at its finest.
I believe in Carl Pavano.
Either you are not an astute reader, you lack vision and a sense of place, or you’re just not trying.
Of course it isn’ now, but don’t take that for granted.
This is not about me, really. Once I’ve stopped reading, how many others have also left?
So you prefer solid comment threads rather than mush?
I’m a little lost here. Are you unhappy with the thread, LGT as a whole lately or just this digression?
Seems as though a reason LGT game threads are good is that there is a healthy mix of analytical info, pertinent in-game commentary, random digressions and usually friendly /accommodating responses. Sometimes it’s weighted toward the more serious stuff and at other times not. If there is a particular “way” that it should be or used to be that has been lost, well, I haven’t seen it.
I’m with you. I cannot figure out what his problem is.

I like the idea floated last night of Shapiro setting up a rotating trade system, where every team that faces the Rays trades for Francisco on the eve of the series.

Ahh, that is nice. Except the Yankees don’t get to be a part of the system.

Seriously, Garko looks like he’s running in ice skates in left field. It’s an absolute travesty that he is out there at all.
To expand, it’s these sorts of things that make me sick of Shapiro/Wedge. There has to be a point at which Shapiro sits Wedge down and says "There are some things we aren’t going to do:
1) No more Garko in the outfield."
2) No more of you asking me if I want a hertz donut. It was funny once.

4-4 in the top of the seventh in Columbus. Rundles pitching, Marte to lead off in the home half. Impromptu MiLB game thread!
Akron was down 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth:
Beau Mills pops out to shortstop Ozzie Chavez.
Matt McBride reaches on throwing error by shortstop Ozzie Chavez.
Nicholas Weglarz walks. Matt McBride to 2nd.
Jared Goedert singles on a ground ball to left fielder Mike Spidale. Matt McBride scores. Nicholas Weglarz to 3rd.
Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Carlos Santana replaces Cristo Arnal.
Carlos Santana grounds out to first baseman Kevin Mahar. Nicholas Weglarz scores. Jared Goedert advances to 3rd, on missed catch error by catcher Tuffy Gosewisch.
Damaso Espino singles on a ground ball to left fielder Mike Spidale. Jared Goedert scores.
how so? A team with tons of superstar players, almost all which came through their academy.
The manager is a legend. Watching United get blown out was pretty much the best thing ever

Spahn- K swinging

Morneau- K swinging
Kubel- K looking
Crede- HR
Harris- BB
Young- BB
weird- Beckett just seems to only care if its the playoffs or if he is facing someone worthy of his time.

Random Hopeful Ohka Parallel thought/question: What was that guy’s name who somehow pitched really well for us last year in a few games? I think he was an ex-whitesock.
FE WEE
Q: Has any manager, after looking at a pre-game radar and knowing with some degree of “certainty” (as much as that term can be used in regards to weather) that it would shortly rain, kind of flipped the pitching rotation and started the game with his bullpen, hoping that when they got out of any type of rain delay he could plug in his starter to (conceivably) go the distance?
by millionairesrow on May 28, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions
Smart play, generally speaking….except that if the game gets called after 5, you’ve conceivably put yourself at a disadvantage. Now the bullpen is taxxed and you’re unlikely to get 5 pitchers working together in an unusual situation to beat the results of 1 decent starter.
I dont have any facts to back that up, just playing DA.
"Mixed emotions. Rather see him hit PEDroia [with that pitch]. I don’t care if he is in the dugout"
by Gradysmanldy on May 28, 2009 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions
It would also be interesting to see who they would put out there if they thought they had to go 3 innings or so before the delay, you wouldn’t want to pitch your closer, but you’re also not going to use your low-leverage guys either, so I guess you’d go with your setup guys.
by millionairesrow on May 28, 2009 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I dont think we have any of those

I listened to it a bit last night and they rambled on and on about slow starts in April.
Then they went through are whole lineup and looks at the BAs of all our players just to prove that some players play well in ST and not well in April, some have bad STs and play well in April and some play on the same level that they played in ST
Insufferable is an appropriate word
Hi Folks,
Maybe this deserves a Fanpost, but it seems to be good rain delay fodder… What opinions do people have about oak-aged beer? Which brews are worthy of the price they cost?
"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge..." C. Darwin
I had Dogfish Burton Baton last week, which I think is in oak-aged imperial IPA
A very strong hoppy flavor but manages to retain a smoothness that is not reached by most IPAs
that smoothness is what intrigues me – I usually avoid IPAs because of that reason.
"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge..." C. Darwin
Oak aged has many faces, aged in a bourbon barrel, scotch barrel, fresh american/french oak barrel, wine barrel, etc.
Lately I have been enjoying some American Wild Ales that are aged in barrels where wild yeast are left to ferment the beer thus creating in many cases awesome sourness.
Lambics are similar, if you get a chance check out some Cantillon brews.
LGT's resident Beer Advocate.
Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout is good. Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout is also very tasty, and not quite as costly as the Founders.

Kevin Kennedy on XM talking about the Joe Maddon line-up gaff. If they all agree that the call was blown that Longoria should not have been allowed back into the game, does that not mean they either have to forfeit the result or replay the game? They all seen to agree that the umps screwed up the call.
The MLB article indicates that it will serve as a lesson for the umpiring crews to always be focused and vigilant in enforcing the rules of the game.
If only MLB actually overturned games when umpires screwed up
Man, home field advantage would have been a nice thing back in 2007…

“Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge was fired today by ailing team owner Larry Dolan. When asked for comment Mr. Dolan, never one to mince words, said “Wedgey is a fine manager and I wish him best of luck wherever he ends up, but let’s face the facts: the man just did not know how to lay it down.” "
