Dellucci DFA'ed – Raffy L back with the big club
The guys at WFNY don't have a link to where they got the info, but they're saying it, thought others might want to know.
Edit (by Ryan): I've added the cleveland.com link.

Let us take a moment of silence for one of Dellucci’s two great moments with the Indians:
His home run off of Justin
I think this is being overstated a bit.

Probably more at the Dump David Dellucci website, but there’s nothing quite like transferring hate onto that ocean of “bloggers” rather than actually taking a position.

I never know with Hoynes. Does he know me and hate me, or has he never heard of me?
On the other hand, I don’t really care either way.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Is the inference that the average Joe 6-pack actually like Dellucci?

.238 avg
.305 obp
.394 slugging
699 OPS
81 OPS+
Played in 183 games out of 374, spending about 90 games each on the bench and the DL.
Just 15 HR and 68 RBI (what the hell) over about 2.3 seasons, so that’s about 6.5 homers and 30 RBI per season.
61 runs created, or 26.5 per season.
His three-year WARP appears to be less than 0.1. He was 10 runs below average at the plate and 3 runs below average in the field (per BRAA and FRAA).
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Looch seems to unite fans who look at AVG and RBI and those who look at OPS+ and WARP. I suppose it’s good to have a guy like that around. Personally, I’d rather have Pujols.

They give themselves credit for our recent hot streak, as early advocates of:
- Cabrera in the leadoff spot, with Grady #2
- Sending down Perez and Koba.
voila! the offense and bullpen fixed.
Now that Dellucci is gone, they can focus on everyday playing time for Garko.
Batting average and RBIs, primarily. I tried to explain once that when (1) your defense is subpar, (2) 75% of your hits are singles, and (3) you’re the slowest non-Molina in the majors, you need to do better, but I gave up.
13-man pitching staff for the weekend series. After that … do they option a pitcher (Lewis, please) and add a bat? Doesn’t sound as if Hafner’s ready. Given the 3 and 4 inning starts, they may stick with this for a while!
I keep reading that he’s not ready to play several games in a row and they’re waiting for that. There was some stuff in the PD the other day about how a chiropractor put his rib back in place and how that’s a really common thing. Whatever.
Of course, he will now sign with an ML team and promptly go .285/.350/.450

They should start their own middle-age suburban white guy rap group — THE PLATOON.

I discovered another parallel between the two because of this post. Michaels was born in Tampa, Dellucci in Baton Rouge, so I’m not sure either is truly “suburban” (I’ll grant middle-aged and white!). What I learned is that both went to good Catholic schools (Michaels to a Jesuit prep school; Dellucci to an all-boys prep school run by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart). This is, of course, completely irrelevant. But, it’s further evidence that the two of them are well-matched.
I came as soon as I heard the news.
Waiting for Rondon.

Overdue as this is—we might have held onto him just a couple days longer in case we need him to pinch hit against Justin Chamberlain.
No, not you. Your helmet!

You could make the case.
I actually was hoping that instead of releasing Looch, we’d trade BenFran to some AL East team that will face Sonanstine three or four more times this season. He’s of limited value to a club with 113 non-Sonanstine games left.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

- Herges leaves Colorado, bullpen ERA jumps from 4.13 in 2008 to 5.65 in 2009
- Hurdle gets fired
- Herges comes to Cleveland, bullpen ERA drops from 5.80 in April to 4.35 in May
- Wedge not fired
Lesson: Don’t mess with Matt Herges.

I hated this signing from the beginning and I’m glad it’s over.
When have we actually signed a free agent that overachieved?

Add to that: Aquino, Herges and Viscaino. Also, Trot gave more grit and leadership than was advertised.

Can’t wait to read about this on David Dellucci’s blog.

Unrelated, but in a very long belated (relative to expectations) move, Chuck Lofgren has finally been promoted to AAA
Is it permanent? Castro called it an “emergency start”
Better than running Kenny Ray out there again!

I’ll admit.. I really liked the signing at the time. That’s why it’s been hard for me to join in all the bashing the last few years…. It seemed hypocritical in an odd sort of way.
same. I was unhappy with the Looch signing and the Michaels one. Michaels grew on me though (for some reason).

i feel as though my vitriol for the Looch has been pretty unadulterated.

same. Although, I did have one gem in there, where I broke down the 25-man as far as untouchables vs. players that I would have to be overwhelmed to trade vs. players I would want to trade vs. a category I called “Please, take him, oh you don’t want him? have him anyway” On that list for me, in 2007:
Dellucci
Cliff Lee.
whoa.

Who’ll lead the team in Veteran Grit and Wedge’s Mancrush now?
In all fairness, I wish things had turned out better for him here (and not just for a selfish reason of being a Tribe fan). I remember reading an article about him when he first signed – one of those spring training puff pieces. Anyways, he seemed like a good guy with his head screwed on straight. I wish him better success in the future.
I just wanted to believe.
I like the commenter on the article who counted Eduardo Perez in having done nothing for the Tribe, like Michaels and Dellucci.
I beg to differ, sir.

That half of the season between him and Broussard… most effective platoon in recent baseball memory?

Solid reasoning. Although we did draft Branyan and traded him for Broussard.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Couldn’t you also argue we got more out of Branyan than anyone else did, at least up to this year? (Which I don’t think will last)
"I gotta be honest, I dunno much about the climate in Japan." - Matt Underwood
I disagree with you assessment that this year won’t last for Branyan. Well at least in regards to his slg. He’ll hit forty HRs with the playing time.
