Another highlight of that inning was when right fielder Emil Brown tried to kick the ball back into the infield. He was not quite successful.

When that SI came with Joe Pos article on ‘Cleveland Rocks,’ it sat on my kitchen counter for a week and a half. Finally, i threw it out unopened. I like his stuff, but no thanks.
Please don’t tell me you believe in the SI JInx.

You really hate the idea of a jinx. Every time someone mentions one, you let the world know they don’t exist
Yeah, I wasn’t even part of the “Cliff Lee was jinxed” discussion, so I’m not sure why that comment was made.

I just have noticed across various sites that you call out the posters who have a downtrodden attitude about Cleveland thinking it has to do with the city or those who believe in jinxes
I was referring to this part:
the posters who have a downtrodden attitude about Cleveland
Steel Nick
Right. People (kids) believing is Santa Claus doesn’t hurt or bother anyone, but people posting on Cleveland sports blogs that Cleveland teams will never win because we’re cursed or jinxed and the attiudes that go with that position are extremely annoying and take away from the intelligent conversations which we try to have about our teams. We all get annoyed by that attitude, and even Roger himself has spoken out against these people on DBN. So I’m not sure what he’s talking about now.

This all presupposes that the purpose of a site is to have said intelligent conversations. That generally is not the case.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Are you kidding me? This comment comes from the moderator of this site who blasts any comment that doesn’t meet his standards.

I’m assuming Jay was not referring to this site. You cannot argue with a straight face that the purpose of certain other sites is to have intelligent conversations.
Well I was referring to this site (and DBN and FTS). I’m not on other sites so I don’t care what goes on at those places.

I can’t vouch for anyone’s commitment to that idea except ours. Some folks like traffic of all kinds, and some folks would like to have enough traffic even to make a choice.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I feel like you are taking this as a bad thing, it’s not meant as that. I do agree with most of what you say about these things. The people that I feel inclined to call out are almost always visiting trolls because they annoy the crap out of me, but also fans that post someone like Mangini sucks without even giving him one game as coach to evaluate him
My whole life, and I think people who assume bad things are going to happen to them or their sports teams because they live here are pathetic.

Yeah, but I try not to jinx the anti-jinx. I know they don’t exist, but I also know if I tell everyone that, then the jinx will work.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Cubs fans are always optimistic and hopeful. “Oh. well, we’ll get em next year, because Felix Pie is great! Don’t be discouraged! We can do it! Yeah!”
Indians fans know there is a dark cloud overhead and they will never see the sun shine.
I agree it’s pathetic. Here’s Merriam-Webster:
having a capacity to move one to either compassionate or contemptuous pity
2 : marked by sorrow or melancholy : SAD
3 : pitifully inferior or inadequate the restaurant’s pathetic service
4 : ABSURD, LAUGHABLE *a pathetic costume
Is not an assumption of bad things warranted? See Cleveland Indians, 1955-1994.
There are no people on this team remaining from the 55-94 rosters, so no. Why would I assume bad things will happen?
Wait, I got it. Is the answer, “Cuz it’s Cleveland”?
Steel Nick
Noted. Although I wouldn’t even call myself an optimist. I just don’t assume the worst because it’s a miserable way to live one’s life.
Steel Nick
Yeah it is a miserable way. But unfortunately, a lot of people have reason to think that way.
In our early youth we sit before the life that lies ahead of us like children sitting before the curtain in a theater, in happy and tense anticipation of what is going to appear. Luckily we do not know what really will appear. For him who does know, children can sometimes seem like innocent delinquents, sentenced not to death but to life, who have not yet discovered what their punishment will consist of.—A. Schopenhauer
Everyone in the world isn’t either an optimist or a pessimist — there’s a large space in between of fans who are hopeful yet realistic. I don’t think Cleveland sports teams are “cursed” to never win, they’ve just had a combination of bad management and/or bad luck for a few decades. I know a Cleveland team will win a championship eventually, I just hope it happens in my lifetime (and I’m only 29).
