Indians designated RHP Greg Aquino for assignment.
Aquino went 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 relief appearances (16 innings) for the Indians this season. The journeyman right-hander may draw a little interest from clubs desperate for middle relief depth.

I always wonder where Rotoworld is getting their info when they don’t include a link.
There’s still no link, but Hoynes makes it official.

Huh. No stats for him on the Clippers’ page, and B-Ref doesn’t have him in the majors after 2007. But hey, 8 Ks in 8 IP. Any walks? Anybody?
Steel Nick
Scratch that. Missed his name on the Clippers roster.

I think this is the right thing to do with these guys – give them a shot, hope you strike when the iron is hot, and quickly move them out when they stink it up. There’s not much reason to keep them around.
Yeah … but there can’t be an expectation that the next guy will pitch any better than the last one.

no – but it is the same deal. these guys are pretty much the definition of replacement level. sign a guy, see them pitch, if they’re good give them another chance, if they totally blow up two times in a row (or three), cut them loose and sign the next one. As it is, the last guy we did this to, Vinnie Chulk, is still in the system because no other team wanted him.
Masa wasn’t seen that way when he was signed though…

Oh I agree completely with the theory.
But it’s kind of like snipping the wires to the bomb … you might get lucky the first couple cuts, but eventually that sucker’s gonna explode!

Question now is … does he go right into the late-inning LOOGY role … pushing Perez back to long relief … or what?
What a mess.
I think the jury’s out on whether Gosling can face RHB, too. Of 28 BF in 2009, only three have been lefties. He struck out all three. That means he got out 75% of the righties he faced. In the majors (2004-2007), he was significantly better against LHB.
Here’s what Wedge thinks:
“He’s not just a matchup guy,” said manager Eric Wedge. “He pitched. He’s more of a strike thrower. He’s been around. We just want him to go out and pitch and trust his stuff.”

He kept us in some games… actually thought he was a tad better than Vizcaino all things considered, but whatever… it was time. Hope they vote you a World Series share Greg…
