Raising Arizona is a bad movie.

Really? That’s one I haven’t seen…. I can’t think of any Coen Bros. movies I haven’t liked though…

It’s my least favorite of theirs, but my buddy loves it. I need to watch it again before judgement is passed.
Wait, not least favorite. The one with Tom Hanks is my least favorite.

The Lady Killers is better than Raising Arizona. This is just bad.

Agreed. Cult classic. If you don’t like it the first time, watch it again, and again and again. Eventually it’ll grow on you.
It’s just stupid. Like not even fun stupid. I don’t know maybe it doesn’t age well.

I may be totally out to lunch here, but it seems that earlier in the season when the bullpen was struggling, Wedge had a quick hook with guys mid-inning, and bad innings seemed to snowball into worse innings.
Then when things were going well, it seemed like guys were getting to finish what they started.
And now they suck again, and it feels like the multi-pitcher innings are back.
Now I ask you, does the crappiness have anything to do with the quick hook and seemingly absence of accountability? Like why bring in a crappy Raffy P when you know there’s a good chance he’ll suck and you’ll have to bring in Herges anyway?
Pinella has pinch-hitters last time I checked.

Victor has that unique ability to make everything all better. I’d like him to use it.

Why would Wedge play the match up with a guy that is letting lefties hit .436 off him? He’s actually better against righties.

Anyone find it kind of sadly hilarious that our go to pinch runner is Barfield, given his last base running adventure?
-Kyle
All other base running errors ceased to exist after Garko fell rounding 2nd.

I don’t think he really hurt himself, the closeup replay I saw it showed him not really wincing til well after he hit the ground. Sort of “oh shit, I gotta make this look like I’m a hero still”.
Shin-Soo Choo, future U.S. Citizen.
Like I said, though, he’s not sent in their specifically to run.
Still sad, yes, but imagine how much worse it would be if HE was the guy we sent in there to run?

Yeah, and I don’t know that any amount of people back from the DL will help. We’re not getting an bullpen relief any time soon.

Last time I checked, Cliff was a member of the Cleveland Indians, who can still win this game. Man I’m tired of making this same statement.

no win for the Indians…. there is no way, unless they manage to score 5 or so in the 10th.

Another quality outing by the Tribe.
I wish I could fail as regularly as Wedge has this season and have that kind of job security.
-Kyle
Call me crazy, but Lee had over 100 pitches and absolutely no one in the pen can be counted on. How is this a Wedge fail? If you can count on absolutely nobody, then there is nothing that you can do about it.
Shin-Soo Choo, future U.S. Citizen.
I was all prepared to disagree with you, but it appears he pitched 2 innings 6 times last year with the Cubs, who know better than anyone the condition of his arm. I would go ahead and say you’re right. But, if Shapiro has told Wedge he doesn’t want him pitching more than an inning, what is Wedge to do? But that is a big if.
Shin-Soo Choo, future U.S. Citizen.
Sadly true. I will be up at 9AM tomorrow to watch the game.

And I thought Monday’s game would be the worst one this week.
Boy was I stupid.
Case of the beet bandit. Missing beets from all over the farm, no footprints. Inside job. Mose in socks. Boom. Case closed. -Dwight Schrute
Monday was still worse for me, because I felt so optimistic going in. Plus they almost gave up their 5 run lead, but then got it back again, only to lose it again. More jerking around in that one.
by Logodaedalus on Jun 19, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions
although this was a Lee start, so that definitely weighs in favor of today
by Logodaedalus on Jun 19, 2009 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions
My question is… can Kerry Wood throw more than 1 inning or not… and if he can’t… how is that worth $10 million.
We seriously better be limiting his games finished in non-save situations. It’s just foolish if we don’t.
Did you forget about the magic of the 8th there, Rog?
by Logodaedalus on Jun 19, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions
No, I heard Underwood say Cliff was coming back out for the 8th, so I thought we might be able to avoid the bullpen until Wood in the 9th
Ah. Indeed he did, but was pulled after giving up a leadoff single…
by Logodaedalus on Jun 19, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Of the 25 closers with more than 10 save opportunities, only Lidge has a worse success rate than Wood. A good investment of $10M who doesn’t get much work and then blows it too often when he does.
given how few chances he gets, it’s somewhat hard to blame him for not succeeding as often as he should…
by Logodaedalus on Jun 19, 2009 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I am curious, for a closer like Wood, whose bonus is so heavily tied to his number of appearances, is there a conscious effort to only use the player when it is a save situation?
at least there’s more confederations cup on tomorrow and sunday

by NickFantana on Jun 19, 2009 10:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Wedge is going to have to figure out whether Wood is suffering from overuse or underuse. He had pitched only 24 innings 69 games into the season.
So Mahoning Valley is up 5-0 after two innings, but in those two innings they scored their 5 runs with just 1 extra base hit (a double), 4 singles (2 infield), were helped with 2 errors, a wild pitch and a balk, and struck out for all 6 of their recorded outs (2 by new guy Carlson).
NY-Penn League Baseball: Awesome!
WOW, stunned. Had a quick check of the score 7-2 tribe top of the 8th as I headed out again.

Chances that Gimenez, who has caught Ohka, Sowers, and Huff in Columbus, catches for any of them over the next three days? Chances .194, strikeout machine Shoppach catches for most of them?
I can buy into the argument that Shoppach is valuable as Lee’s personal catcher, but not for Ohka, Sowers, and Huff. If we don’t want Martinez behind the plate very often anymore, then it’s time to give Gimenez a shot, just so I don’t have to sit through another game of Kelly Shoppach striking out 37% of the time — and that includes his might .139 with RISP.
