I’m feeling a solid Huff tonight.

Screw this, he’s throwing the perfect game that Justin wasn’t man enough to throw last night.

I’m afraid that David Huff will never experience Major League success… until he grows the mustache back.

Pssh. I don’t know if you’re new around here, “supermarioelia,” but the only important stat for a pitcher is a W. Or it isn’t success.

I just turned the television on for the first time since the game last night, and it was still tuned to ESPN.
Am I the only person who doesn’t understand the appeal of watching a bunch of people play poker? How is this exciting?
I believe in Carl Pavano.
I’ve never understood poker. I always feel like I got screwed.

I know we’re focusing on Huff tonight, and rightfully so. But how about our offense stops hitting like little girls tonight?
I’m excited. No idea why.

I wonder if that’s his first lifetime dislocation. Seemed like a pretty innocent force to be a first-timer. I honestly have no idea what the recovery is for an anterior dislocation in a ball player. Gotta be at least a month I figure. Who knows if he has a loose capsule that needs surgery. Crap.

I’ve had a broken collar bone and a dislocated my thumb. The former healed properly. The latter gave me trouble for years.
Looked more like a dislocation than a break. Granted I’m basing this more on his scared look rather than a pained look that he had.
by supermarioelia on Jun 2, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s funny, because I broke my collar bone this fall and am currently wondering if my thumb is dislocated. I busted it in a lacrosse game like 5-6 weeks ago and never got it x-rayed. Can’t tell if its broken or dislocated cause its still not healed – swollen, can’t use it, etc. Maybe a doc can tell me what the treatment is or if its worth getting x-rayed?
If your thumb is still swollen weeks later, yeah you should get that at least x-rayed.

I broke my foot about ten years ago (four metatarsal bones), and I still have trouble with it from time to time.
I believe in Carl Pavano.
That’s a lot of broken metatarsals – did you drop something really heavy on it?
by APV on Jun 2, 2009 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions
David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and yourself have plenty in common.
Broke my collar bone playing rugby union back in 1983, that was Saturday afternoon, it was the following Friday when xrays showed it was snapped in two.

Wow I guess I just dissed september huge. Still though, they’ll probably opt for surgery given the timing. In most amateur athletes/ordinary joes the treatment is obviously conservative, but if I’ve learned anything from pro baseball, it’s that they love surgery when it’s a reasonable option.

Like Fantana said the other night, the fact that the FO can write this season off as a big injury fest is so so wrong.
My hope is Barfield, my fear is M and I don’t want LaPorta up again yet.

but seriously. I’m guessing shoulder dislocation would be a relatively positive result on the spectrum of “things that could be wrong with his shoulder”… if that’s the case, what’s the prognosis? I’m looking at you, Dr. Mario…
I really do think months, even without surgery. He’s going in a sling for a few weeks, then very slowly progressing to range of motion exercises and then to strength training.
If surgery….then 3-6 month recovery I think. Which is why I figure they’ll go with surgery given the timing of the season. Might as well get it fixed up while he’s got the time in the offseason to kill.
by supermarioelia on Jun 2, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Depends what’s structurally wrong. They’ll clean up any tears he may have, then probably tighten up the capsule. It’s a damn quick procedure but it’s the recovery that’s slow.

Peralta, DeRosa, Garko, Shoppach, Frisco

So, I’m gathering Droobs hurt his shoulder. But was it that clear that it is a dislocation/torn stuff/months to recover/??
I mean, is there any possibility its just a separation and he’ll be back in 2 weeks?
So a separation indicates that the AC joint is involved, compared with a dislocation that refers to the glenohumeral joint. A separation is no more reassuring for us.
by supermarioelia on Jun 2, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions
But from personal experience and reading about football and basketball injuries, you can have a shoulder separation that is relatively healed in a few weeks.
I have less experience with separations than I do with dislocations, so I’m really not sure.

Haha, one of our cats was obsessed with Werther’s wrappers a few years ago.
I believe in Carl Pavano.
This one is obsessed with anything he can do to be annoying. But the trauma of losing Drubal AND butter rum lifesavers is too much. TOO MUCH!
You should teach him more baseball and perhaps he would udnerstand your predicament. Mine sits on my chest and watches Indians baseball with me.
"I gotta be honest, I dunno much about the climate in Japan." - Matt Underwood
He has on occasion stood on his back feet and batted his giant fluffy paws at the players. He hasn’t caught one yet.
Every once in a while our cat Moe will tire of me ignoring him when I’m sitting at the computer, so he will stand on his hind legs next to my chair and stick his paw in front of my face.
I believe in Carl Pavano.
Every once in awhile? Every night when I get home Turner sticks his paw in my face or on my shoulder in this fashion and waits for me to turn around. Also does this while I’m in bed reading. Or pretty much any other time he can. Must be a new trend in cat world cuz he never used to.

Good point, he’s like a cruz missle with no guidance chip. See ball, get ball. Which is why I love him, but you’re right, dangerous.

On a lighter note, how great was Conan last night? I’ll admit I tire of him when I watch him regularly, but I thought he was quite good last night. Really played with all age groups I would think.
I haven’t laughed that hard at a skit since his baseball skit….or any of his skits he did when he was in Toronto.
by supermarioelia on Jun 2, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah it really was. I don’t get the people criticizing him for his taped scenes. If anything I’m critical of Conan usually for spending most of his show dancing around with nothing really planned. The stuff he does in advance is always solid, and he should keep it up.

at a certain, and I don’t know if we are there yet, all these injuries begin hurting 2010 by increasing the uncertainty about what assets we actually have, messing with roster issues because of the need to replace injured players, and messing with development of players. Potentially some of these injuries might actually affect 2010 performance also. The more the 2010 season gets influenced, the more Lee and Victor become trade eligible. Again, I think we aren’t there yet, but it is something to keep in mind.

No not the pictures. The pictures are fine. I hate when people talk about their cats.
And I apologize for that. I’m fine when people talk about their dogs, or their kids, or what soup they had. But I hate talking about cats.
Steel Nick
My cat doesn’t like when I talk about you. Coincidence?
"I gotta be honest, I dunno much about the climate in Japan." - Matt Underwood
I don’t like cats but people can talk about them all they want. And post pictures because they are usually cute but in my experience annoying to be around.
Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?
There are two kinds, the real annoying kind and the awesome kind. I hated them for a long time before I found/rescued mine.
"I gotta be honest, I dunno much about the climate in Japan." - Matt Underwood
I have a friend who hates people who hates cats haha. He thinks they’re poor human beings, haha. Sorry nickjs.
"I gotta be honest, I dunno much about the climate in Japan." - Matt Underwood
I have met a few good ones but most are annoying. And they don’t listen. Dogs listen. Plus my mom and uncle are allergic. When we had my old cat my uncle couldn’t come inside our house or he would start choking.
Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?
Yeah the allergies are rough, but thats why I like my cat, he has his own personality and doesn’t just do whatever I expect of him. Luckily, we’re pretty on par with what is acceptable behavior haha.
"I gotta be honest, I dunno much about the climate in Japan." - Matt Underwood
My dogs pretty much do whatever they want but pretend to listen which is nice. except when it storms and we give one drugs. Then he just does whatever.
Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?
I love dogs too, I love most animals. Dogs can be more fun in active sense, like going to parks and stuff.

Of course, I say this recognizing that there is not any way for me to know what is being said behind the scenes. However, they’ve been playing bad baseball all season. I want to know what more Mark needs to see and it has me questioning whether or not he’s going to call Wedge to account for it.
Its actually Tim’s I believe.

anyone else notice the bank banner ad for TCF bank? “Open a TCF. Totally Free Checking account today”
Um… those words are in the wrong order….
I think it’s a “TCF Totally Free Checking Account”. Not open a TCF, a “Totally Free Checking account”. Like, TCF is the bank name, not the account name.
by jakesinger777 on Jun 2, 2009 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions
I mean, yeah, but they capitalize “Totally Free Checking”, but not “account”… which makes it seem like they’re trying to make a connection between the bank and the name of the account. Which doesn’t work.
Yeah, it’s definitely weird, I’ll give you that.
