Does Chriz Perez not take DeRosa’s roster spot?

FWIW, I found this on Twitter. Someone with Cardinals inside knowledge named Drew Silva posted:
Francisco Samuel and Jess Todd are on the short list of possible PTBNLs to finalize the Mark DeRosa deal. That’s uh… interesting.

Keith Law had Samuel as the Cardinals 10th rated prospect. BA has Todd as the Cards 4th rated prospect. Both are pitchers

Yes, yes. I’m aware both of us could list people all day long, and neither would be definitively correct. And I’d obviously rather have well-thought of young pitchers than non-“prospects.” They just make me nervous, is all.

by Julie on Jun 28, 2009 1:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m with you. It didn’t bother me until I read a book about Cy Young and realized that the World Series was basically just a gimmick at the start. I like the idea of two separate leagues meeting up once at the very end.
by junkballer on Jun 28, 2009 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m a little different here, but I’d rather see the whole league adopt the DH. Every team plays every other team during the season, and you play your division opponents more often than the rest of the league. Kind of like the NFL
by Roger Dorn on Jun 28, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I like the idea of everyone adopting the DH. Having a pitcher hit should have gone out with having an offensive lineman kick field goals.
by junkballer on Jun 28, 2009 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That would ease my dislike, since if I wanted to watch bad hitters bat I would just splice together footage of Josh Barfield.

We’ve got catchers waiting in the wings. He’s a backup catcher playing everyday.
by MooneysRebellion on Jun 28, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He has 139 ABs. Compared to Victor Martinez, who plays every day, has 288 ABs. That is not playing everyday
by Roger Dorn on Jun 28, 2009 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No other team pitches their backup catcher 2 out of every 5 days. Hell, most teams may only play their backup catcher one every 7 days. Why? I don’t care if you’ve had historically great numbers…if you’re not getting it done now…you need to sit.
by MooneysRebellion on Jun 28, 2009 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

I consider myself a personal example. My junior year of college I started off the season with a +5 era while going 0-4 in my first 5 starts of the season. I was benched for my next two starts and then finished the season 4-2 with a final era of around 3.5 after getting my head on straight. I’ve seen it with numerous other guys in my playing career.

by Julie on Jun 28, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

His defensive skills seem to be dropping as well. I’m all for playing him if he’s throwing guys out…if that’s the case I don’t care about his offensive numbers. But he’s not doing that anymore. He’s allowing more pastballs this year too. Now, that could be partially attributed to a bad pitching staff, I don’t know…but his defense is going down
by MooneysRebellion on Jun 28, 2009 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

The average fan doesn’t regard DeRosa as automatically gone at the end of the year. He sees keeping DeRosa (and others like him) as a decision that the team can make more or less at will. He doesn’t understand why the team would choose consistently to trade away DeRosas rather than keeping solid veterans around.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s partly that, partly denial about the season being over, and partly just an emotional response of the sort Julie and salome are talking about.

See, Kerry, that’s what we baseball insiders call a 1-2-3 inning. I know you hardly know what that means, but it’s okay. We’ll talk you through it.

Oh sure a 1-2-3 inning now. But you know when you’re in Chicago and we have a chance to win you fall apart.

Now that DeRosa has been traded and the Mystery Ball is over, can we go back to the FIRE WEDGE mania or has that died down until the All-Star break?

I know for sure the Indians really need to fire Wedge, & Shapiro for a better team leaders, The team needs help with their pitching staff (relief pitching 09) Then the team will start off with better relief pitchers, cause Sowers, Perez1, Lee, & Wood cannot pitch cannot make it without the help of the team. Then we can start trading the worst players like Peralta, Val, Carroll, Garko, Gut, Shop, & Choo which is a different issue pertaining to alot of errors that have been and still going on for the team, which by coincidence we also in need of most talent MLB for years to come.

Content aside, this sentence structure is my favorite part of this comment:

I would like to see them give another manager a shot. A real shot, not an “interim manager” position that creates no expectations of success.

Exhibit B:
I am so ticked-off right now!!! The least this team could have done was TRY another manager. Wedge"s record is 5 games over 500 after 7 years. You couldn’t do much worse. And no Wedge doesn’t lose EVERY game with his stupid decisions, but he’s obviously lost enough. He’s a 500 manager. Charlie Manuel has a 530 winning %

Another exciting day at the ballpark.
I’m glad that the Indians will be visiting here when I go to Cleveland in September.
That way I won’t have any possibility to see them live this season (since spring training).

With this loss, the Indians have a good shot at the worst IL record among all 30 teams.
Keep an eye on Oakland and San Diego.
