98 and 90: Facing the Big Unit
Since all the Tribe News is horrific, thought I'd post this about what it's like to face Randy Johnson.

I think Randy Johnson’s career is very underrated. I hope people remember him for being really good and really tall not just really tall.

Are there people that think that? When I think of the dominant pitchers in the 90’s I first think of Unit and Pedro
I am aware of Maddux’s awesomeness, but the fact that he didn’t throw that hard is why he doesn’t come to mind immediately
My general perspective is that nastiness requires fear. Lefties facing the Unit were more than a little bit fearful. I mean, the guy threw a billion miles an hour and with those long arms the pitch started halfway to home plate. With Maddux, it was more benign trepidation, a sense that you were going to hit yet another weak grounder rather than risk that you would be maimed (or at least hit by bird shrapnel).
How can a guy with five Cy Young Awards be “very underrated?”
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

ok im embarrassed. My thought process was that his numbers are really good, not just k’s and umm wins. I always argue that he is better than maddux but i guess the people that disagree with me like the NL.

Is better? I don’t know what that means, really. Their peak periods didn’t overlap much.
Maddux’s four-year peak is hard for anyone to match, even with Randy’s four straight Cy Youngs.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I had a ticket for Johnson’s 300th win the other day, but couldn’t go to the postponed game. I am sad now.
