Postseason Surgery Likely for Grady
Soloff said "there's a high index of suspicion" that Sizemore will need an operation at some point. Soloff, speaking before the last-place Indians hosted the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, said Sizemore will have to play with soreness in his elbow for the remainder of the season.

Is there a compelling reason for him to play through pain now and not shut it down for surgery? Why wait and risk this affecting 2010?
There isn’t, and we won’t. As fans we may be fully adjusted to the idea that the season’s over, but I don’t think it’s kosher to tell your team that until July.

Maybe in like mid-August Brantley will be ready and we can get this done then.
Proud Fan of the Worst Baseball Team I've Ever Seen
I like a 1/2 season try-out for Brantley. So by August we could/should expect an OF of LaPorta-Brantley-Choo? I’m actually rather excited about that. Get Grady healthy and ready for 2010.
Although I disagree that the players don’t know it’s over yet.
I just wanted to believe.
I’m not saying they don’t know it. I’m saying it’s bad form for the front office to admit it before early July, that’s all.

Soloff says the elbow will probably need to be scoped, which fits well with your time line of late July anyway. Selling tickets will move to a new degree of difficulty without Grady.
Speaking of call-ups, I hope they give Meloan a try out. Lately they’ve used him strictly as a one inning pitcher to great effect, . Assuming Wedge could resist using him for more than three outs they might try that same approach up with us and see how he does.
I’m hopeful for Meloan, though I don’t know whether he’ll get the benefit of the doubt presently. I mean, that’s got to be his first string of three scoreless appearances in ages.

I’m not holding my breath on Meloan. When the Indians traded for him, the scouting reports said to expect a fastball that sits in the low to mid 90’s, and can reach higher when necessary. According to a recent interview Lastoria did with Lovullo, he is currently sitting anywhere between 88-91, touching 93.
Velocity does not a pitcher make, but a drop like that is usually not a good sign.
I’d like for Grady to just get better. I wish they would just fix things when they happen instead of waiting forever. I feel like this can’t be good in the long run. I’m also not a doctor so I don’t know if it is really a bad idea for him to play through this pain.
Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?
If the decision has been made that surgery is inevitable I would really rather do it now, and begin the rehab/recovery process soon rather than later. Grady is not leading us into the post-season this year.
I’m skeptical that attendance is really that much of an issue.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Yeah, it’s not like they’re drawing with him in the lineup. But then, why is he playing? Because Ben Francisco sucks?
I’m guessing attendance is less of a concern than they want to make sure Grady actually needs surgery. As fans, I think we discount that getting surgery and whatever rehab needs to be done afterwards really sucks. So players and teams usually try to do everything in their power to avoid surgery.
I’m guessing that Sizemore’s play will continue to be below his average and he will have surgery sometime after the all-star break.
They can call up Crowe again if they just need a warm body. Or play Barfield in center. Or whatever.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Can they call up Jordan Brown?
Please, please, please daddy? We want Jordan Brown! He has the coolest bat control in the 7th grade!
I would love to see Jordan Brown take Garko’s job next season, or for that matter next week. Until Weglarz and/or Brantey are ready, we still have a position to fill. Of course, I’d also like to see them try playing Victor at 1B for all but one starting pitcher, see if Shoppach can get his groove back by playing truly every day. That would be a worthy second-half experiment.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

If Grady does get surgery and attendance is affected by it.
At least, the stadium will be enjoyable without all the Gradys Ladies trashing about.
Clone Grady 25 times and we will win the World Serious in 2040
