Westbrook tosses three scoreless innings for Aeros
In his first rehab start since undergoing the dreaded TJ surgery, Jake Westbrook started for Akron on Saturday, giving up a single and a walk while striking out one in three innings (39 pitches). Five of the outs were on the ground. He'll pitch four innings next time out.
Also, Joe Smith has done all he can in AAA. In five rehab appearances, he's gone 5 IP, giving up four hits, 0 R, 1 BB and striking out 6.

Just doing some back-of-the-envelope calcs, the Indians will need their 5th starter only once (the 13th) until the 28th of this month because of all the off days. You wonder if that’s the date the Indians are targeting for Westbrook’s return, because if he makes three more rehab starts on regular rest, he could make that start on four days’ rest. That’s the best-case scenario, of course.

I’m anxious to see what Smith can give us.
If you believe it's just a game, you're also probably wondering why Santa keeps skipping your house every year.

Note to the rest of the AL Central: the Indians are currently in perfect position to be buried. But you should do it now. As in, over the next month we should be 10+ games behind at least 2 teams. Do it now. You’ve been warned.

If the Indians were playing even decently this season, Westbrook’s return would be such an awesome thing, timing wise.

Unfortunately, they suck. Thanks for checking in, though. Resume cavorting around Chicago (which is what I imagine you doing with all of your hard fought free time)

My blog negligence has been shameful, and brought on by trying to simultaneously wrap up a school year and move to California for the next six weeks.

Sort of a perfect storm at the moment – Jay with the baby, you with the end of school/move, me out of the country. Yeah, Ryan.

Yeah. I’m going to get something up today though.
I think my last post was the weirdest Shapiro’s house of all time, and well, that probably speaks to where I’m at.

To be clear, I wasn’t criticizing. I honestly assumed you were just taking some desert time, due to their struggles.
Yeah, that Shapiro’s house was weird, huh?

I thought it was very funny. But, then again, I once wrote the Are You There God? It’s Me Shapiro thing.
