Indians international prospect ages three years overnight
"Confirmed: Dominican SS Jose Osoria, who signed w/ #Indians for $575K last July 2, is really 20-year-old Wally Bryan." Wally Bryan? The fact that he talked with an Iowa accent should have been a tip-off.

I updated the link to point to Badler’s full story at BA, who had ranked Ozoria as the Indians’ #10 prospect last year.
Industry insiders believe the number of players under suspicion is at least 70 and expect several other recent Dominican signings to be caught soon as well.
I believe this further enlightens the rather cryptic comments the Indians have made, vaguely implying that they’ve backed off the Dominican as a major stream of talent.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Sorry, should have said that Ozoria was ranked #30, not #10.

That’s interesting, because MLB has been more aggressively vetting the players this year than ever before. It’s definitely trending toward more confidence in the reported ages, so now is probably the wrong time to back out.
It was a great selection of awesome.

I suspect that it isn’t just the widespread fraud, but also the extent of investment and competition from other clubs. They’re putting their resources where they’ll have the most effect, and competition is a part of that.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Kiley McDaniel on an additional identity-verification technique just implemented:
all DR signees will have to take DNA tests to confirm parents/identity on the way out of the country.
It was a great selection of awesome.

Did Edward Salcedo ever get signed by anyone? He’s another guy that was 16 going on 21.
by mcrose on Jul 2, 2009 12:19 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nope. According to Arangure, Salcedo is in court in the Dominican Republic, trying to regain his eligibility. He one MLB source saying that Salcedo was “never getting off that island”.
It was a great selection of awesome.

Thanks. Sounds like he’ll have plenty of time to hang with Kelvin Diaz.

Kelvin’s actual name: Otto Braun…very common in the Dominican

Haha, I was just rereading this and skimmed over that quote, which appeared to me to say “a number of players under suspicion are at least 70”—Minnie Minoso making another comeback?
It was a great selection of awesome.

Is no one bringing up that he might be even older than 20 because Wally Brian is obviously a fake name?
