by the way…there has to be a better title for this fanshot. Maybe something along the lines of Rondon rips an intergalactic hole in the universe at Indianapolis.
AAA Hitters, Turkey Sandwich, No Match for Rondon.

The way this season has gone, I assumed this meant he was pulled after six batters, presumably with a devastating injury.
Yeah, he’s been tearing it up lately from what I’ve read. Finally some good news…if only 4 years away from being impactful.

Jay, I got this one.
He’s 22 in Short Season A ball. He’s not a prospect.

I heard one time he sold his hair to buy a watch chain for his girlfriend; but it turned out she sold her watch to buy him a hair clip.

I watched the Clippers game on milb.tv. Rondon was excellent with his fastball, showing command to both sides of the plate to righties and lefties. His offspeed stuff was slightly less sharp, but still effective. I really couldn’t tell the difference between slider and curve and change – it looked like he has a slider and a slower version of the same pitch, which he’s not afraid to throw on any count. He got K’s with all of them.
Through the first 4 innings he was completely dominant in that noone could hit the ball hard off him and rarely lifted it. That said, there were a lot of foul balls which upped his pitch count. Towards the end (innings 5 and 6) he got people out with fly balls, and he fell off the mound a little. But – no hits. Great AAA debut, and definitely our #1 pitching prospect right now.
Comments from Ross Atkins before Rondon’s AAA debut seem to indicate that Rondon isn’t coming to Cleveland any time soon, though Lastoria notes further down in the post that if we see more of the same from him, they may rethink their plan.
Atkins quote:
On Hector Rondon: “He has essentially done everything we have asked him to do; however, we do not think his slider and changeup are effective enough at the major league level to get outs. He still gets outs with them in Double-A, but we want to see that happens in Triple-A and we feel like it is going to take a little bit better hitter to show him that he needs to use his pitches more effectively and not rely on the fastball as much. The slider needs to be a little better, and the changeup needs to be better and not just be a pitch as it needs to be a major league average pitch. And the best feedback he can get is from the hitters.”
