LGFT: So good, he doesn't have to pitch to get the W
On Tuesday, former Indian Alan Embree picked up a W with 1/3 IP. However, the "inning pitched" is a bit deceiving, as he recorded his only out via a pickoff before throwing a single pitch in a tied ballgame. As luck would have it, the Rockies would score in the bottom half, and Embree would be relieved of his duties and pick up a win without ever throwing a single pitch.
I'm sure Jayson Stark will be informing us as to how many times, if at all, this has happened in the past.

Since 1954, 18 pitchers have picked up a win without officially facing a batter. The vast majority of those were via CS. Several, however have been by pickoff: Jim Coates in 1965 and Greg Garrett in 1970, but in those cases the box scores don’t report the count at the time. B.J. Ryan did it without a pitch in 2003. In 2008, Brian Shouse won a game via pickoff, but he threw one pitch first.
Three relievers have picked up wins when they uncorked a wild pitch, only to see the third out recorded when a baserunner was caught trying to advance (Larry Andersen in 1986, Paul Shuey in 2003 and Tyler Johnson in 2006).
We can always count on you to come up with these things.

I was at the game, it was pretty funny.
It’s amazing how boring a game is when you have no rooting interest and it’s the National League. I was reduced to rooting for Adam Dunn and LGFT (Embree, Belliard, etc.)
Il faut d'abord durer.
How about Hanrahan getting a victory on a day off while in another city, playing for a different club?
