In case it wasn’t obvious, the above are Sabathia’s 2008 numbers with the Indians and Brewers, respectively. Cliff is pitching in a much tougher park, but at least his first start suggests he can achieve similar results.
The AL Central is tougher than any NL division. The reason the teams appear weaker is because they don’t get to play other NL teams.

The AL Central is the weekest division in the AL and has two of the weekest teams in all of baseball and only one outside competitor for the WS Championship. The NL West has two equally week teams but has one sure WS competitor and maybe – given the strength of their pitching – two.

Awesome. I loved watching CC last year and I’m jazzed to see Cliff too.
No comment on Victor.

The pregame interview with Victor is about to come on NESN…I’m bracing myself for it.
S…now they are talking about that 2007 series…

See, Wedge even ruins pitchers’ hitting. Lee had 2 hits in 35 PA under Eric Wedge; 2 hits in 4 PA playing for Charlie.

It’s probably not fair for me to evaluate since I was still pretty young and unsophisticated when Charlie was manager. Can’t say I’d expect better results with Charlie and the 2009 Indians though
Connie Mack, or John McGraw, or Al Lopez couldn’t manage this bunch to a winning record in ‘09. I’m interested to see if they can play above .450 ball for – an improvement over their first half – for the rest of the year. That would be a small victory.
