Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Harry Pavlidis over at THT notes that Kerry Wood has been throwing his cutter much more this year while virtually eliminating the slider from his repertoire, as well as throwing his curveball more. He thinks that these changes should help to keep Wood healthy and is somewhat optimistic about his near-term future.

It’s funny because I’ve been wondering why Wood is throwing the cutter so much instead of his slider and health is the only thing I could think of.

I haven’t read the article yet, but I’d really like to see him get back to his old ways and become an effective pitcher once again.

It seemed like earlier in the year he couldn’t throw his slider for a strike, so he abandoned it. I think he should throw his overhand curve more. It seems really tight and it’s not a pitch that hitters normally see.

Gameday says it was the curve that Wood threw to Alexei Ramirez on Sunday. Yeah, that’s a pitch I’d like to see more of.

I’m glad they looked at Wood in 2009: I’ve lost all interest in doing so.

It all comes down to Kerry locating that breaking stuff. Guys are just sitting fastball and only swinging on his breaking stuff if there are two strikes.
