Some Perspective
I thought this was a nice story about Matt LaPorta. It's nice to see that we have players like this in our organization.

Not only did Matt make his year by showing up, he also brought tons of goodies including a signed Louisville Slugger bat and baseball. In return, LaPorta’s new lifelong fan gave Matt a wooden cross necklace which he immediately put on and promised to never take off.
Smart.
He’s set in the event of a vampire attack now.

Incidentally, I don’t find that this story gives me any new perspective.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
If you already knew that seeing a very sick person puts your every day travails into perspective, then it wouldn’t be a new perspective.
;)
I don’t mean to be a dick about this, because it sounds like the guy is facing a very tough recovery, they basically are restructuring some defects in his legs and feet, after which he’ll have to re-learn how to walk. Really difficult stuff, no doubt. On the other hand, he was never dying or even actually sick, he just couldn’t walk right. The better point probably is that I just don’t think I was having a hard time putting things in perspective anyway.

A brief BP interview with LaPorta is here. (subscription content)
Not very insightful or substantive, but it’s something.

Not subscription content. And thank goodness for that, with questions like “Why do you think there are so many different religions in the world?”
Why would you ask a baseball player that?

This one is even stranger:
Because of the inevitable disagreements, it has been said that religion ultimately causes wars. What are your thoughts on that?

Probably because LaPorta really puts his faith out there, front and center. God is part of his Twitter address, that isn’t usual.

Yeah but it’s not a good question to ask anyone except theology professors or religios officials. It’s a tough question to answer and it doesn’t have much to do with what he actually does. He did a good job with it but it’s a silly question.

or sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, possibly even biologists, depending on your point of view…

You know what? I’ll ask David myself — you may not be aware, he was a contributor to the Indians Annual. I have a hunch that this was edited down from a larger conversation, that he was following up on something LaPorta had said.

I don’t. Most of them are nuts.

He gave a pretty good answer, actually. Y’know, for the format.
