Game 126: Indians 4, Royals 2
David Huff gave up two earned runs in six innings of work today, which will probably go down as one of his better outings of the year. Yeah, it came against one of the worst offenses in baseball, so there's some markdown for degree of difficulty.
(On a side note: what would Zack Greinke's stats look like if he had 3-4 starts against his own team?)
Matt LaPorta went 2-for-4 with a home run, so he's now collected at least one hit in each of his seven games since coming back. It's too bad it had to take Trevor Crowe getting hurt for the Indians to finally to call him up. No, I'm not all that devastated that Crowe is out.
With the series win against the Royals, the Indians have now gone almost two months since dropping a series to a losing team.

Why isn’t LaBomba on the WPA board?

WPA is a cruel mistress. Solo shot in the 6th, only worth .132. Double in the 8th, already have a 4-2 lead, only worth .025. Two earlier PA deducted -.044.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Damn dirty apes!

Just our rotten luck.

Last person to hit that many for Akron was Jon Van Every (27), in 2005. Before that, Victor Martinez (22) of course, in 2002.

Choo deeply ponders why he’s so goddamn awesome.

Matt Murton was DFA’d. If we want to contend, ever, he needs to be the centerpiece of this offense.
Man… I was wrong about him. So far.

huge rec. I think we could do without the giant headshot. Maybe un-silhouette him.
This is Victor's home. Victor Jose, you too.

Nice, but please use it with a subject line so it can be closed. Someone on the board might be wearing a pacemaker.

Also! If we’re gonna be using this regularly, 400K is gonna kill threads.

Watched this game today. Huff’s line is a lot worse at the hands of any team not named the Royals. Huff has really sucked this year.
Pretty harsh and semi true….but what have has actually been is “inexperienced” this year. The guy never really had any AAA time. Not to mention being shoved into an awful team. Really sucked might be a bit much.

Huff had plenty of time in AAA. He has really sucked.
That doesn’t mean he sucks, or that he’ll always suck, but objectively, he has sucked pretty bad.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
i’m hopeful for several reasons, but how soon until we start dumping him in the same stew as sowers? LHH’s are OPSing over 1.000 against him
all I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom

He goes in the same pile with Sowers once he’s sucked three years in a row.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
hopefully in the next three years rondon, carrasco, and a few other MiLers develop and are rotation worthy… especially if they throw harder than 90 mph, making this a moot point

What is your ideal rotation for next season?
I think we have 7 guys that are interesting at the time being, Westbrook, Masterson, Laffey, Carmona, Carrasco, Rondon, and Huff. My best bet is that Rondon starts the year in AAA, and we are still hoping that Westbrook is even ready by then.
Interesting.
I think its:
1.) Carmona
2.) Laffey
3.) Masterson
4.) Carrasco
5.) Rondon
to start the season. Huff looks a long way off at this point. Rondon will have 1/2 season at AAA and I think he could win a spot. I’m worried about Westbrook. Obviously, if he is healthy, he gets the top spot and everyone moves down a rung- Rondon to AAA.

I’m a big fan of Huff. I just think he looks prime to get passed by Carrasco and Rondon at the beginning of next season. That and I’m baffled by his bad peripherals. Specifically the K-rate is just so low compared to his minor league career/my expectations.
Huff pitched 120 innings at AAA before getting called up. That’s a fair amount of time for someone that went to college, putting up good performance numbers, and is thought to be a good prospect.
Huff has been a big disappointment for me, “really sucked” is appropriate enough.
Last year’s GB%, 50.9% has not been reproduced. In his 40 innings at AAA, it was 33.3% and in the majors, it’s 37.9%.
Any explanations from anyone? I had super high hopes for him. I was pretty easily able to differentiate Huff from Sowers. I thought he was the real deal.
What happened this year?

I just got an invitation to the 14th Annual Wine, Beer & Spirits Law Conference, wherein I learn that the former director of the California Dept. of Alcoholic Beverage Control is named Jerry Jolly.
