Poll : Wedge's next man crush
If nothing else about our Wedgie is true, he does develop man crushes.on role-player grinders that he then overplays ad-absurdum. While none rise to the level of Casey "I can’t quit you" Blake, we have seen Francisco, Garko, Trot, Michaels and Carrol in this role. Who is the next one going to be? While my money is on Giminez, who is not a bad role player, there are other worthy pretenders to the throne.

Gotta be Gimenez. He can catch!

Slight lean towards Crowe. he seems a bit more gritty than Giminez and doesn’t clog up the bases as much. Giminez is more of a grinder, but not enough to compensate for Crowe’s grit.

yeah, it was crowe’s GORP (Grit Over Replacement Player) that landed him my vote.

Michaels?! as in…Jason Michaels?! as in…less valuable than David Dellucci, Michaels?? Wedge has his priorities way out of wack.
"It’s tough," Martinez said. "This is my house. This is my home."
We'll miss you, Vic
Are you kidding? Valbuena is already the guy. Once he busted up his chin (and kept playing) after bowling over the opposing catcher, it was love at first sight.
This is an excellent point. This poll seems to have a bias toward white players, despite the fact that Wedge has shown he can develop man crushes on someone from any race. I would probably change my vote to Valbuena as well, but I am developing a little man crush of my own, so I can’t fault him for it
I don’t know if it counts when Wedge gets a crush on a guy who 1) is more talented than his replacements and 2) actually deserves the playing time. I mean, I’m sure he has a man-crush on Grady, too. The point is, which man-crush will actually influence the decision-making?

That’s an interesting theory, little girl.

Went with Toregas. Can’t get grittier than a dude named Wyatt.
"You are an LGT success story" -- Jay
Difficult question. Those mid-aughts drafts were chock-full of potential Wedgies. I’m leaning towards Lord Gim — gives Wedge the flexibility to block Marte, Peralta, Shoppach, and (eventually) LaPorta, all in one roster spot. Could definitely see Toregas getting waaaay too many ABs, though. Crowe would be a harder argument to make; I know he dives around and whatnot, but he’s kind of a pretty-boy.

Funny story: Met a guy at the bar the other day who said he was a groundskeeper at Progressive Field. Gets to chat with the players pretty openly. He claims Garko really didn’t like Wedge very much, and was especially resentful at the end. According to him, Garko was embarrassed to be playing the outfield and really wasn’t happy that he kept getting sent out there.
I honestly would never have thought that. Of course I don’t claim his story as fact, but I do guarantee that this is what he told me.

It’s interesting enough that I want it to be true. Next thing we’ll find out that Blake couldn’t stand him.

Garko was embarrassed to be playing the outfield and really wasn’t happy that he kept getting sent out there.
I wonder if he’s been lurking on LGT somewhere +/- making anonymous comments about his own outfield-eptitude….

I’d love to know the ratio of comments you think of, but don’t make.

Yikes! I forgot to include Jordan Brown and Lastoria thinks that he’s on his way up today.

Hey, wait a minute, if Brown’s up, and he plays first, and Peralta plays third, then…
Goddamn it, Wedge.

Nevermind. It is a precautionary move to sit him today as he hurt his shoulder a little in BP this morning. Expected to be ok.

If everybody Tony thought was on their way to Cleveland actually ended up in Cleveland, we’d need a much larger active roster. Who’s on the 250-man these days?

Tonight’s lineup features Marte, Gim and Crowe. No Shoppach.
Sizemore 8, cabrera 6, Choo 9, Peralta 5, Hafner dh, gimenez 2, valbuena 4, Marte 3, Crowe 7, huff p.Of course, I’m more interested in how Jake pitches (against Geivy Garcia!) than how Trevor Crowe hits.
Could just be the ol’ hem’roids flared up on ’im. Not everything is something.

I made a comment in early part of the first game thread.
Basically, it’s another data point that backs up the assumption that we won’t see Shoppach play like a first-string catcher would. My original comment was that “I wouldn’t make that assumption yet.” At least based on last weekend.
And really, I was disputing the assertion that it has to be because Wedge has it in for Shoppach, or whatever. Certainly, that’s one possibility. But there are other possible reasons, even if you don’t agree with them.
Number of appearances since Victor’s last game for Cleveland:
Chris Gimenez 6
Andy Marte 4
Kelly Shoppach 2
Wyatt Toregas 2

… and this was the reason to fire Wedge mid-season, even if it allegedly would have seemed reactive.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I think I’m sending out an official photoshop request. We need to see a Wedge-Gimenez combo shot (especially since 90% of us probably don’t know what Gimenez looks like). Creativity encouraged.
