The Great Destroyer comes to Cleveland

Saw him Sunday in Columbus. He was very good (I think 4 Ks in 2 perfect IP). His fastball was merely 90-92, but his delivery has a little quirk to it to give him some deception. I think all his Ks came on his off speed pitch. Couldn’t tell if it was a change or a slider or a little of each, but it was nasty.

According to fangraphs.com, Lewis’ FB is at 89.5, between 88.7 last year and 90.1 the year before.

by 7foot3 on Aug 5, 2009 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, his fastball is somewhere between college radio and Christian rock.

by fleerdon on Aug 6, 2009 9:00 AM EDT up reply actions

I want a pitcher with a classic rock fastball.

by FredOx on Aug 6, 2009 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions

is it too much to hope we might someday get a pitcher with an alt-rock fastball?

by APV on Aug 6, 2009 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions

Didn’t we have one with a Megadeth fastball? Or was that just a holocene slaughter?

Usually, an incredible waste of pixels.

by emd2k3 on Aug 6, 2009 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I need a pitcher that don’t drive me crazy.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Aug 6, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

this is fantastic

by APV on Aug 6, 2009 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, it did remind me of JLew, but its more of a short arm delivery than a weird hitchy, jerky arms and legs thing.

by Ryan Kelsey on Aug 5, 2009 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Except Todd can throw a cut fastball which is a tough pitch out of the bullpen

by JRontherim on Aug 5, 2009 1:23 AM EDT reply actions

Don’t look to close, you might get hurt.

Now is there really any evidence that closers get hurt more often than other relievers?

Should have been a reply to wd. Quote from the last link.

by Logodaedalus on Aug 5, 2009 2:14 AM EDT up reply actions

There’s a sea of relief opportunities.. and only he can make something of them.

Is Todd expected to only be a reliever?

by Cols714 on Aug 5, 2009 11:19 AM EDT reply actions

I wondered if they thought about stretching him out. He did get two innings in Columbus when I was there Sunday. The Cardinals AAA team used him as their closer, but Greg Aquino has that role locked up for the Clippers.

by Ryan Kelsey on Aug 5, 2009 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Tony Lastoria said they stretched him out because they’ll use him as a middle reliever for now and he might have to pitch multiple innings. My guess is he’ll be a late inning reliever eventually (2010 probably).

by palcal on Aug 5, 2009 1:30 PM EDT reply actions

Ha ha, this will be our year to pick up a hidden gem in the Rule 5 draft! We can sacrifice a spot on the 2010 roster.

And yes, I know about the recent rule changes. This is a chance to restore the genius label.

What has happened to LGT? I leave for two weeks and you guys are convinced that Lee and Victor are (likely) to get traded.

Not happening. I’ll make an avatar bet with anyone about this.

His own fault.

Speaking of avatars, love the Jay Mariotti. How very appropriate that his mouth is wide open.

by Buckeye Brad on Aug 5, 2009 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Someone, I forget who or in what thread, put him side-by-side with my old avatar. They bare a striking resemblance, but I think Mariotti is worse than Turkmenbashi.
