The former “guy i’m dating” was a douche. Too douchey to remain “the guy I’m dating.”

Good choices.

Except for the part where I live in the middle of nowhere. Not a lot of opportunities.

Well you made one great one so that counts.

Oh, I’ve been there. I live in a village of 1200 people, most of them over 94.

by Julie on Aug 8, 2009 9:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I live in a slightly bigger place, but generally everyone my age is either married already or, you know, there’s a really clear reason they’re not.

Second date with a guy I was only kind of into, but was kind of bored and whatever, he was moderately cute. I knew he had some issues with mental illness, but this is not necessarily a dealbreaker as long as they’re not violent and are in the process of getting help, you know?

My judgment of “not violent” was very very wrong. Spent the entire drive back from Toledo being regaled with his fantasy of trapping someone in his house and slowly stabbing them to death.

He was in all of my classes that quarter. It was immensely unsettling.

Um wow.

Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?

Holy crap.

And here I was expecting something amusing.

by Logodaedalus on Aug 8, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, the other one is kind of funny in retrospect. First guy I dated in college (let’s call him E) had always had this issue where he and his BFF (let’s call him F) tended to be both attracted to and attractive to the same women. There was this whole list of one of them dating a girl then her leaving him for the other. I’m honestly not entirely sure why they were still friends, because the whole thing was kind of neurotic.

anyway, I got conned into this big LARP thing they did because they needed one more person, and E’s character “died” and I had reason to have to hang out F’s character, blah blah. F and I had actually discussed a mutual attraction earlier, and both said we respected E too much to act on it in any way and were totally platonic.

I had to leave early from the LARP, and when he got back E calls me up all “You are not INVESTED in this relationship” and “YOU ARE A HORRIBLE CHEATER” blah blah and dumped me. I was incredibly distraught because I had not done anything.

Six months later I found out he’d cheated on me after I left the LARP site.

On the plus side, he and F aren’t friends anymore.

Live Action Role Playing. It’s a deeply nerdy hobby in which you pretend to be a knight and hit people with nerf weapons or something. It wasn’t very fun.

Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?

by ClemsonGirl on Aug 8, 2009 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ve dated two guys who were bipolar, and there were issues, but not so much that that was what caused the break-up. This guy was something else.

by AngG on Aug 8, 2009 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Well bipolar can be controlled and improved with medication and everything. it’s still sad though.
I have a legitimate fear of schizophrenia. I have nightmares about schizophrenia.

Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?

by ClemsonGirl on Aug 8, 2009 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah. I have a friend who’s schizophrenic and they caught it pretty early and she manages it okay with medication, which is good. but stabby-dude’s schizophrenia went pretty far before they caught it, and it’s one of those things where once you lose it, you can’t really get it back.

by AngG on Aug 8, 2009 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I think sometimes it doesn’t matter about the timing. It’s different for every person.

Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?

by ClemsonGirl on Aug 8, 2009 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeah. Schizophrenia isn’t always the same, and is probably a bunch of different syndromes lumped under one name. But I understand the earlier it’s caught the better it can be managed.

by AngG on Aug 8, 2009 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I think usually that’s true. Like most things. But sometimes it really is like a switch in your brain that makes you lose it all at once.

I’m also taking Stats :P, and Family, School, and Community.

Anyone else very annoyed that we’ll probably lose this game?

by ahowie on Aug 8, 2009 9:45 PM EDT reply actions

You probably shouldn’t be. We lost it because of Ohka, a guy who has no future with this team. Masterson and Todd looked good.

Yeah. My “in the scheme of things” opinion is pleased with Masterson’s starting debut. I’m just kind of irrationally pissed that we’re in position to lose even though we’re not contending

I’ve had it with Wedge. Woke up late here in Tokyo, and I see Gimenez (Gimenez!) instead of Marte in the lineup. Again. Unless Andy is in the hospital, he’s in the lineup every day. That’s it. Management needs to lay it on Wedge, now. This is just stupid. Wedge is simply incapable of making good decisions with his personnel.
