We're gettin' the band back together
I've hardly had time to read LGT in the past couple of days, but if this has already been mentioned I still consider it fanshot-worthy. Fire Joe Morgan is back at it and doing articles for Deadspin. Just in time for Derek Jeter to win the MVP over Joe Mauer.

If you’re at work, stay away. Or just give up for the day.

As someone who hates bleacherreport and Eckstein, this is great.
Dodgers, Rockies, Giants, Padres and Diamondbacks. Oh my!

This is the boringest paragraph written about the boringest topic in the history of paragraphs and topics.
heh.

I love the headline “Jesus is the Derek Jeter of Christianity”.

I believe I injured myself whilst reading the final paragraph of that one.

I thought maybe this was a call to arms for all of us to return to LGT after hiatus.

Me too. I recently got internet back after about 2 months without regular home access. I feel like I’m a noob all over again.
Il faut d'abord durer.

I have had more than limited access for almost a week now. It’s killing me.

For me, it’s not a matter of access. It’s been a ridiculous lack of time.

Same here. New house, new kid on the way …. very very busy.

Same situation for me, kiddo number 3 on the way, trying to replace someone at work, house updating and 2 playing soccer this fall.

So I read after I posted, and it was a one-day thing? I’m going through a roller-coaster of emotions here.

It’s like a one-night stand. I just don’t know what to do now.

It was too soon, anyway. Only 11 months away, and their schtick is still old.

I disagree.
You can reply with a coherent, logical argument why I am wrong, and you will be right, and I won’t admit it. Just saving you the trouble.

The only argument I will make is, they probably agree with me.
Beyond that, agree to disagree.

I am with Jay, I started skimming every article, because it just wasn’t as funny to me as it used to be.

I think Fred’s right about the last bit of the Derek Jeter article.

Except that still have an image in my brain of Mauer doing unmentionable things to a World Series ring.

That part was brilliant. The rest read a lot like LGT.

It wasn’t intended as an insult, just that I can read most of that here. That’s a good thing.

Their shtick is written in the same style that many articles in LGT are written. Their references are consistently funnier. These guys are good enough to be paid to create humor, so no surprises there.
If one claims to be tired of FJM’s style, what does that say of one’s tiredness of LGT’s shtick?

I can only speak for myself, but the primary reason I come here is to discuss the Indians. Not to rip bad baseball writing. Style only adds to my affection for the site.

I was tired of my own schtick before I ever got here. That’s why I’m dumping it on all of you.
by Jay on Sep 18, 2009 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If I may speak for the rest of the dumpees, we are not tired of your shtick even if you are. In fact, we demand even more shtick and immediately.

Thank you, on behalf of poor-man’s-FJM hacks everywhere.

Bam! That’s a retort, ladys and germs.

I find this an interesting observation. I have never been a huge fan of FJM and I don’t find their style particularly appealing. Yet, I’m the ‘primary’ source of ‘comedy’ writing on this site.
I guess I’m just surprised anyone finds that what we (or maybe what I) do here is really anything like FJM. They obviously excoriate people on the regular wheras, from my own admittedly messed up non-objective viewpoint, the humor writing here is, hmm, harmlessly eccentric? I see the big disconnect being the (relative) lack of vitriol in our comedy stuff.
The only thing I can think of that I’ve written that approaches FJM is the Hey, Jay-Z piece.

I’m just going to assume he only reads Evan’s posts.
by Jay on Sep 18, 2009 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t define FJM’s style as you do. Their belittling of online material and authors is simply a vehicle they use to explain their viewpoint in a way that allows them to use sarcasm and humorous references. I never meant to imply that LGT engages in vitriol to make a point.
by elsandito on Sep 18, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I put the two together in terms of top notch writing, a more intelligent approach to the game, and an occasionally irreverent style. I don’t think that LGT uses the same means as FJM, but I think the end goals are very comparable.
by fwembt on Sep 20, 2009 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He seems to be off-the-cuff comments in LGT threads with FJM main-page material. I can’t believe he would say the LGT main-page stuff is similar to FJM in tone.
As for the LGT comments, yes, the tone is often similar to FJM, but it’s not a terribly valid comparison.
by Jay on Sep 20, 2009 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not tired of it. Is this that hard to understand? FJM is LGT with different subject matter. That’s not a bad thing, but I guarantee that there are a dozen people on this site that could do the same thing if they so desired.
by fwembt on Sep 20, 2009 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
FJM truly makes me lol every time I read a piece by them. Sometimes it hurts.
