Sal Fasano and his quest to stay in the big leagues
A bit of a sad story on our friend Sal and his quest to reach the big leagues this year in order to get major league health care coverage for his son, who has a heart condition.

Yeah, I read this. It’s a shame, my gut reaction is the Indians should sign him to play a day but, well, that seems silly. Then again, maybe the (sorely lacking) positive PR would do some good.
This reminds me.. didn’t the Indians do something with Juan Lara’s roster spot so that he could see the health care benefits during his accident?

So not quite the same that Sal is hoping for, but something nonetheless.

Which brings me back to Jay’s point, Sal couldn’t be called up for ONE day?

He could still be called up for one day, right now.
Having said that, it still seems like they did something stupid by not going with the COBRA plan. I have no idea about all their finances, but the discontinuity of coverage is a disastrous choice from which there is basically no recovery.
I kind of thought that the 20K for coverage of millions in bills seemed like a no brainer as well. But if Sal is in the bigs tomorrow, I will drink to it.

Yeah that was my feeling too. But I really didn’t want to be the one to say it.

Frankly, if it were my child, I would have spent the 20k and figured out how to make up for it as best I could. It’s difficult to count on others to take care of what you need to take care of yourself. (i.e., getting called up by a willing GM might just be wishful thinking on Fasano’s part.)
