October's worst-case scenarios
Pretty great little piece from Vince @ Scene. Are we really ready for what could be a completely disgusting October?

Personally, I am rooting for a CC/Lee matchup. Both lineups of their teams are loaded with stars.
It sure would beat seeing the Giants or the Rangers in there.
my worst case scenario involves ryan garko being a hero and having to read chuck’s gloating.

I don’t know who I’m rooting for yet. There’s a lot of “Meh” sprinkled with amusing to watch in the NL. And a lot of hate in the AL. If the Rays could only make a late push…
Without throwing my support behind anyone I’ll say the Cardinals over the Yankees in what should prove to be one of the most gag-inducing postseasons in recent Fox memory.

My Worst Case Scenario already happened. We suck. Victor gone. Another year wasted. I guess it could get worse. Eric returns. Otherwise, eh…
If you believe it's just a game, you're also probably wondering why Santa keeps skipping your house every year.

Yeah … I might actually just kind of check out during the postseason. It’s not like I don’t have better things to do.

1. BEGIN PRODUCTION OF 2010 ANNUAL
1a. Interview Shapiro
1b. Write 17,000 word story on Marte’s emergence
This is Victor's home. Victor Jose, you too.

Me too. Worst-case scenario is Detroit wins the AL Central. Or Minnesota. Or White Sox.

- - I wake up and it’s game 5 of the 2007 ALCS, which we win and then go on to sweep the Rockies.

Sorry, that was supposed to say number 4.

Y’all are kind of pikers at this “worst case scenario” game. You aren’t even bringing in leprosy or nuclear war. I’m unimpressed.
Oh sure. But this is drunk logic. Also, time-traveling potatoes.--AngG
My ranking of the contenders from “that would be cool” to “f”
1. Giants
2. Dodgers
3. Rockies
4. Angels
5. Rangers
6. Cardinals
7. Phillies
8. Marlins
9. Tigers
10. Player strike that would cancel the 2009 post season
11. Red Sox/Yankees
I fail to see what would be cool about the Dodgers winning anything. How can they be ahead of the Rockies or Angels?

Sorry, meant to say Rockies or Rangers, not Angels.

I’m not sure I can totally explain my enjoyment of the LA teams. But for the Dodgers, a big part of it is Manny. I love him. Always have and always will. And with him out of the AL and off of the evil Red Sox, I can root for him without shame. Also, I would really like to see Blake win it all. I always thought he was underrated and underappreciated by LGT. They also have a couple exciting young players that I have enjoyed watching the last several years in Broxton, Kemp, and Ethier.
The thing keeping the Rockies down in my book is that they are relatively new. For some reason, I tend to root against newer franchises. I just figure a fan base should have to suffer for 20 or so years before they get a championship. They are about past that point for me, but I haven’t totally gotten it out of my head.
Also, I would really like to see Blake win it all. I always thought he was underrated and underappreciated by LGT
I would argue that we were some of the only people in the world to properly rate him, both when he was vilified for having bad numbers with RISP and deified for being the Chin of All Truth and Grit.

You know, I always always liked Casey Blake. And for that matter, Ryan Garko. Liked them from the start and never stopped. I liked them for who they were.
And I feel that those who overrated those players robbed me of that, because I spent all my time talking about them tearing them down, correcting inflated impressions of how good they are in the grand scheme of things.
Damn you, Chuck.
The Dodgers, like the Cubs and Mets, are just as evil as the Red Sox, only dumber.

Eh, their payroll was something like 20 million more than the Indians this season. Do they have an outrageous competitive advantage? Yes. But I don’t see them exploiting the system like the Red Sox/Yankees. I know you put the Yankees on another level. I have the Red Sox right with them, almost to the point where I don’t differentiate them anymore.
The Cubs and Mets aren’t worth hating, they just are funny and dumb and pathetic.
