Nice article. I have to see it in “action” though before completely jumping aboard, but I do like the looks of it … especially xBABIP.

What we end up seeing is that good pitchers end up leaving more runners on base (Tim Lincecum: 75.6 percent) while bad pitchers let more score (Jeremy Sowers: 68.1 percent) than league average (71.9 percent).

This is all well and good, but I learned today from ESPN’s Hot Stove U that Runs remain the most important stat. Insider content, for which you should be thankful if you are not an Insider. Discussion therein about whether runs or RBI are a better stat, whereupon my brain whimpered a little.

You don’t need an advanced degree in physics to calculate it. You don’t need a membership in SABR to appreciate it. You don’t need access to the Elias Sports Bureau to look it up.

I would hate to see my my EqA appreciation parties overrun by the proletariat.
