I think they’re just listing as many names as possible to create the appearance of a log-jam to justify the non-signing to the fans and to Thome. Just saying Konerko, Jones, and Kotsay alone would have been enough.

If anyone goes back to read this, I overheard some talk radio guy at work saying that if he they had kept Lee, they would have 6 “shutdown starters”. Lee, Holliday, Blanton, Hamels, Moyer and Happ. It is without a doubt the most absurd comment I have heard in quite a while.
