The (not dead) flap is partly my fault. When I moved the post to the center column, its appearance became more suggestive of a big story, i.e., his death. I just thought it would be nice to have Feller profile prominently placed for Veterans Day.
We may accuse the old man of being crotchety, but I won’t lie: I got a little misty-eyed when he was talking about making baseball popular in the U.S. again, when he lamented he didn’t see many sons (or daughters) playing catch with their dads in the yard.
Damnit, now I have to go watch some clips from Field of Dreams.
Truly unfortunate, in my opinion.

I guess I should add, some of my greatest memories to date, are playing catch with my dad and two brothers in the yard. I remember sitting outside in the driveway waiting for dad to come home and tossing him his glove before he even had a chance to go inside.
Time playing catch and playing baseball probably kept my brothers and I out of more trouble than I care to admit too. Awful shame that more fathers don’t have the time or energy to spend tim playing catch with their kids. Too busy chasing the almighty dollar I suppose.

It’s not about chasing it, it’s about survival. More fathers are pushed to work 60 hours than before, and the median income of one parent doesn’t support a household the way it used to.
This.
I’m lucky, though. I only really have to work 40 hours and rarely that, and I can work at home almost any day I cannot make it into the office. I see a lot of my children because I basically get them together in the morning and have them three nights a week (My wife works 3 tens a week, and it takes her 45 minutes to and fro work). Still, I would love to play more catch with my son (and daughter.)
