Marte Outrighted to Columbus
per Castrovince via Twitter. My understanding is that he does not have to accept the assignment and can become a free agent. Will he stay or will he go? Oh, the drama.

If he wants a real opportunity, he should go to a rebuilding team who has no internal option to play 3B, no money to go out and sign an established 3B, and no desire to lock up a free agent for more than one year so as to not block a top prospect.

Maybe this time the Indians really did rid themselves of Andy Marte.
-Stay classy, Hoynes.
Also, some guy named Robby Thompson is going to be Wedge’s bench coach.
Oh, I don’t know. Lookout Landing is pretty sure that, this time, it’ll be different.

this needs 30 rec’s.
In the new Geico commercial, Marte sings "Let me be myself" on Wedge's front lawn (with the cavemen).

Can someone help me on the absolute locks that get added to the 40-man? Are there really any? I heard that Bryson doesn’t have to be added by Lastoria. I suppose Hagadone gets added… but Kluber and Goedert, those guys aren’t locks I assume.
I also assume we look to find a Rule 5 diamond, right, I mean why not?
For pitchers, Hagadone and Kluber would seem to be locks. You could have a discussion about Miller, Espino. On the fringes would be guys like Jose Flores and Travis Turek.
For positional players, I don’t see a single lock. If Goedert gets rostered I think it says something about the organizations internal evaluation of the Nix/Phelps trials at 3B. The team only has two catchers on the 40-man roster right now (Marson and Santana), so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them add one more. The internal rule 5 eligible catchers are uninspiring (Matt McBride maybe?), so perhaps this is a spot that goes to someone outside the organization. Then, aside from Goedert and McBride, the only guy even worth discussing is Josh Rodriguez. Given his primary duties at SS, he could be an option, but he would join the Phelps/Nix/Donald/Valbuena utility crew pretty quickly. The outfield rule 5 eligibles are completely without interest, and any changes to the current crop of outfielders on the 40-man will likely involve swapping someone in for Jordan Brown and/or Shelley Duncan.

Kluber, it should be pointed out, wasn’t that remarkable down the stretch after coming to the organization, but is an interesting prospect. He has logged more than 150 IP each of the past two years, and had a nice 23.7/8.0 K%/BB% combo. That, combined with his HR frugality, gave him a very healthy +53 Net for the season.

DON’T TELL ME WE MIGHT LOSE THIS KLUBER GUY FOR NOTHING… THAT WOULD MEAN…
Adam Miller is healthier than Stephen Strasburg.
Indeed.
In fact, that very thought led me to go do this:

so things aren’t all bad.

I’ve had a few already, and it seems to be a better batch than last season’s in my opinion. So we got that at least.
So when Marte starts for the Pirates in 150 games next year and OPS’s .575, can I say “I told you so?”
Where's your crown, KIng Nothing?
Sort of. The lesser point was that we didn’t think that would happen. The greater point was, we should have gone ahead and let it happen regardless. The greatest point was, Marte never got 25 starts even for one month — not even after his great 2009 campaign for Columbus and subsequent call-up to a team that was beyond hopeless — let alone for six months, as you predict.
