I have to say that Span is one of my favorite non-Indians players, even though he plays for the Twins. I wish we had him.

it is. it describes a span when there’s an intermediate center support between the left and right supports. if the forces have a tendency to pull on the structure the center support might shade to one side or the other to cover some of the work the other supports have to do.
