Sowers through a simulated game this morning

by APV on Mar 13, 2010 3:05 PM EST reply actions

Fascinating game, eh?

by Voltaire on Mar 13, 2010 3:25 PM EST reply actions

This is my first time trying a game thread. Not much action.

by Pa tribefan on Mar 13, 2010 3:29 PM EST reply actions

First thread ever? First thread this year? First ST thread?

by Voltaire on Mar 13, 2010 3:33 PM EST up reply actions

First game thread ever. I’ve posted a few times on LGT

by Pa tribefan on Mar 13, 2010 3:34 PM EST reply actions

Saturday afternoon ST is probably the slowest time to try.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

ST is hit-or-miss. Check out yesterday’s 200+ thread. During the season it’s common to break threads (500+ posts, requiring sequel threads)

by Voltaire on Mar 13, 2010 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

Masterson K’d 3 but gave up an unearned run. I’m not really sure what’s going on. Was just perusing box.

by afh4 on Mar 13, 2010 3:35 PM EST reply actions

Chizl show. Nice double, and he’s been showing off the gun from 3rd.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

Brantley dropped the ball in center, resulting in Bourbon ending up on second to lead off the first. Two groundballs later, we were trailing 1-0…

Tribe in 2010!! Maybe.

by indiansfan20062000 on Mar 13, 2010 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

My feelings for Masterson are starting to resemble my feelings for Laffey in winter (07?)

by Gradyforpresident on Mar 13, 2010 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

Masterson seems to have a lot more upside than Laffey. I can’t shake the sense that we’ve lucked out any time Laffey is above-average over ten starts.

by Jay on Mar 13, 2010 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

This is definitely one thing I really disagree with you on. Judging by the poll, I’m not alone.

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

On the “above-average” comment?

My point has always been that Laffey is a good bet to continue to be average, or close to it, and what are the chances that we aren’t in desperate need of that?

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

I usually Tivo the games and watch delayed so I don’t have to watch the commercials

by Pa tribefan on Mar 13, 2010 3:35 PM EST reply actions

That’s what I do with the Cavs. Less so with baseball.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t really have time to watch all the games in real time. DVR let’s me see most of the action and maintain some marital harmony

by Pa tribefan on Mar 13, 2010 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

Brantey dropped a soft fly ball to first batter. Couple of ground ball outs scored a run for Texas

by Pa tribefan on Mar 13, 2010 3:37 PM EST reply actions

5 K’s in 3 IP? Yes, Masterson.

by afh4 on Mar 13, 2010 3:41 PM EST reply actions

Welp, tschüs y’all.

Buckeyes-Illini heading to OT

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 3:42 PM EST reply actions

Go Bucks!

Tribe in 2010!! Maybe.

by indiansfan20062000 on Mar 13, 2010 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

Didn’t expect that. Didn’t expect Michigan to have a 2-point lead with 2 seconds left, either.

Buckeyes-Illini heading to double OT

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

Who is Kearns’ main competition? Crowe? Gimenez? Bixler?

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 3:49 PM EST reply actions

What happened to Duncan?

by Pa tribefan on Mar 13, 2010 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

Right, Duncan too. I always think of him as a 1b for some reason.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

Masterson has reached his pitch limit with 2 outs in the 4th. 6 strikeouts.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 3:54 PM EST reply actions

Also one walk.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

Sweet.

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:13 PM EST up reply actions

Evan Turner does impressive things.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 3:56 PM EST reply actions

They are unimpressed with Valbuena’s range.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 4:01 PM EST reply actions

Yeah Bucks! Win in double OT

by Pa tribefan on Mar 13, 2010 4:08 PM EST reply actions

Any chance anyone but Turner was the hero?

Tribe in 2010!! Maybe.

by indiansfan20062000 on Mar 13, 2010 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

Lighty took over when Turner fouled out.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

Illinois should have won in the first OT but the refs bailed out the Buckeyes again and again. It was nothing but Turner to the free throw line. He also should have fouled out in regulation and then again in OT, but got away with it. Once it went to double-OT, the Buckeyes took over.

by Chemo on Mar 13, 2010 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

I disagree, but I’m sure it was a painful loss for Illini fans. Basketball’s fatal flaw is the importance, abundance, and aribtrary nature of its fouls, baseball’s is the pace and length of the games, and football’s is the injuries. Well, "fatal: is the wrong word, but those are the most significant problems for each that seem to only be getting worse, and no one’s proposed a good solution. But the Illini should work on their clock awareness.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

Can someone remind Manny Acta that we’re going for an undefeated spring here? Like Mike Gosling? C’mon Manny, tighten the belt.

¡EL CUADERNO!

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:13 PM EST up reply actions

On a completely random note, how amazing is Sporcle? The thing has completely taken over my life.

by supermarioelia on Mar 13, 2010 4:14 PM EST reply actions

haha, definitely… I think every time I’ve wound up on there it was at 2 AM and kept me up until 3.

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

In a matter of minutes and approx 3 IMs, I have half my family hooked on Sporcle.

Tribe in 2010!! Maybe.

by indiansfan20062000 on Mar 13, 2010 6:43 PM EST up reply actions

Here, let me google that for me.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

i have screenshots somewhere.

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

AAAAAAAAAAAAnd I’m back. I’ll have to stay away from there.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

I just turned on WTAM, and it doesn’t sound like the Indians baseball I was promised.

by supermarioelia on Mar 13, 2010 4:18 PM EST reply actions

They can’t broadcast games online if that’s what you’re doing.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

Really? I listened to the first game of the spring online….is it a Saturday thing?

by supermarioelia on Mar 13, 2010 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

I listened to the first one (maybe it was the second, actually) at wtam.com too - BUT - mlb.com’s radio is free for ST.

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

Really. I saw that the first game was available online too. Either MLB made an exception, or someone screwed the pooch and forgot.

You know MLB would never allow that.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

Hamilton: While he’s not bursting at the seams, the Indians were hoping Asdrubal Cabrera would have reported in better shape. Interesting.

Chisenhall draws a two out walk.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:19 PM EST reply actions

Carrasco in. Is this a first for a “real” game?

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:25 PM EST reply actions

It would appear so, you handsome devil.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

At this point I may be the only one listening, but I think that went flyout, groundout, double, groundout.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

i’m listening, but only closely enough to put together my top ten prospects list based on this game.

by Brick. on Mar 13, 2010 4:32 PM EST up reply actions

I’m listening, but not very closely, considering I just got stuck on Sporcle

Tribe in 2010!! Maybe.

by indiansfan20062000 on Mar 13, 2010 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

I’m really surprised it hasn’t become huge huge yet.

by supermarioelia on Mar 13, 2010 4:41 PM EST up reply actions

Aw, man, the PIRATES. Ouch.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:42 PM EST up reply actions

White Sox and Giants. Might not have gotten Pirates if you didn’t mention it.

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

I remember the Giants, he sent them to the World Series with a game-winning single, didn’t he?

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

I remembered him in the playoffs with him once it gave me the answer. I’ll admit I typed “Phillies” just for the heck of it.

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

by westbrook on Mar 13, 2010 4:48 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I still can’t picture the Pirates or Phillies. At the end I was just guessing teams that like old players and/or our players.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

Carrasco apparently snapped off a very impressive curve for the strikeout, but another run is in, and the Indians’ undefeated season is at risk. 3-0.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Mar 13, 2010 4:49 PM EST reply actions

Our ‘veteran’ hitters were uninterested in hitting today.

by indiansfan20062000 on Mar 13, 2010 5:03 PM EST reply actions

We have a B game going on today, correct?

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 5:14 PM EST reply actions

sorry, not my best material. been distracted with cleaning the condo.

oh, you mean the indians. no idea.

by Brick. on Mar 13, 2010 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

Carrasco, all by himself, is going to cause the whole DIPS theory to come crashing down.

by dgcambridge on Mar 13, 2010 5:19 PM EST reply actions

so, this at bat app is worth every penny. in two spring training games, i’m already glad i got it. cancel your pricey BP subscriptions and get this thing.

by Brick. on Mar 13, 2010 5:20 PM EST reply actions

So I was just listening in the background, but Masterson sounded good

by APV on Mar 13, 2010 5:31 PM EST reply actions
