Cliff Lee Doesn't Care that it's Spring Training

"Seattle Mariners ace Cliff Lee has been ejected from a spring training game ... throwing at Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder. With two outs in the bottom of the third inning Monday, Lee threw an inside pitch to Snyder, then tossed one just over the batter's head."

Pretty standard for a starting pitcher if the interpretation is that he was throwing at the hitter. And it’s tough to interpret otherwise.

Whoever was doing the Indians mlb radio yesterday referenced this with the classic “Cliff’s a competitor line. Doesn’t matter the time of year.”

I know this is a dead horse that’s floating on water under the bridge but I just wanted to scream: “EXCEPT FOR THE ONE SEASON WHEN WE ACTUALLY NEEDED HIM TO COMPETE.”

It’s a dead horse because of (a) injuries, (b) he dominated early in 2008 and 2009 when we were presumed to be contending, and © he came up bigger for the Phillies than C.C. ever did for anyone.
