Around SBN: Stan Van Gundy Fired As Head Coach Of The Magic

"Seattle Mariners ace Cliff Lee has been ejected from a spring training game ... throwing at Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder. With two outs in the bottom of the third inning Monday, Lee threw an inside pitch to Snyder, then tossed one just over the batter's head."

"In the first inning, Lee tripped over Snyder while trying to back up a play at home plate."

Cliff, this is why I liked you and will continue to do so, barring pinstripes or red stockings.

Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...

He’s been suspended for the first 5 games of the season. Too harsh.

... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...

Pretty standard for a starting pitcher if the interpretation is that he was throwing at the hitter. And it’s tough to interpret otherwise.

by TribeJay on Mar 17, 2010 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Specifically, throwing at a hitter’s head.

by Jay on Mar 17, 2010 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

If Cliff was throwing at his head, Snyder’d be in the SICU right now recovering from his baseballectomy.

Resident LGT results-oriented boob.

Because he’s not allowed to move out of the way?

“Fine. Take it.”

Whoever was doing the Indians mlb radio yesterday referenced this with the classic “Cliff’s a competitor line. Doesn’t matter the time of year.”

I know this is a dead horse that’s floating on water under the bridge but I just wanted to scream: “EXCEPT FOR THE ONE SEASON WHEN WE ACTUALLY NEEDED HIM TO COMPETE.”

by afh4 on Mar 18, 2010 9:56 AM EDT reply actions

yeah, all the cliff worship has a pretty selective memory. tons a good from him, but plenty of frustration along the way. here’s hoping that soon no one remembers 08-09 fausto.

by Brick. on Mar 18, 2010 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

I struggle with the Cliff stuff especially in the face of the assertions of choking that are routinely made about CC and Fausto in ’07.

by afh4 on Mar 18, 2010 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

It’s a dead horse because of (a) injuries, (b) he dominated early in 2008 and 2009 when we were presumed to be contending, and © he came up bigger for the Phillies than C.C. ever did for anyone.

by Jay on Mar 18, 2010 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions

No one’s bigger than Carsten.
