He’s making a point very similar to my old Coco-vs.-Victor example. My original point was that the team’s leverage goes down dramatically from the point where a player is two years from arbitration, to one year from arbitration, to present eligibility.

He’s saying, once a guy hits arbitration, it’s too late to deflate the salaries to a huge effect. This is basically just a continuation of the leverage-down-salary-up trend I was outlining.
