but it also takes a boost. shouldn’t reach that vesting option now

Seriously, this team’s luck sometimes. Whatever, I guess. Doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme.

by cheech99 on Mar 20, 2010 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

If the alternative is anything less than a 100% Wood, I think we’re far better off with Perez as our closer to be honest.

RE: spring soreness

I will tentatively schedule a setback for May 8.

Not really upset. Not really surprised.

I’m confused. Does this mean that PerezRight gets to develop his closerness without the pressure of being anointed His Closerness? Or does what he shows as temporary closer not mean anything in demonstrating his closeness because it was without the pressure of being His Closerness?

by stuart dean on Mar 20, 2010 5:40 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t think it means anything.

The 9th is the 9th. Either you pitch worse that inning, or you don’t.

by Jay on Mar 20, 2010 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I pitch equally as well. Ergo, I’m a closer.

Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

I really liked Antonetti’s take on this in the Annual. He kind of sold me.

I was just trying to set up a Glengarry joke.

I know that Brick alluded to it but if Wood fully recovers, could that increase his tradeability as the vesting option becomes less of a certainty?

by stuart dean on Mar 20, 2010 5:42 PM EDT reply actions

I think it does. He’ll have two months to pitch respectably and drive up trade value.

If he’s healthy, there are a whole lot of teams who will want a two-month Kerry Wood rental but wouldn’t have considered anything close to a $15 million commitment.

by Jay on Mar 20, 2010 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess I can stop keeping my fingers crossed on the spring training/injury front

So this definitely opens up a spot in the bullpen for Laffey/Talbot. And to a lesser extent, Saul Rivera.

Like any good Cleveland fan, I’m confused on this whole good bad thing

by APV on Mar 20, 2010 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Me too, but I’m still going to make that green.

it always starts the same, with a boy and a girl and a hook and a game

Not to be the ultimate defeatist, but what’s our next option if Perez implodes in April?

by Toxicadam on Mar 20, 2010 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

Raffy P if he regains form. Laffey as a wildcard. Jensen Lewis as an “Oh, yeah”.

by JRontherim on Mar 20, 2010 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe Jensen can only pitch in the 9th now.

by Jay on Mar 20, 2010 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions

The ultimate defeatist would be asking what our next option is for when Perez implodes in April.

.. when both Perezes implode in April.

by Jay on Mar 21, 2010 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Kerry Wood clearly doesn’t have a closer’s mentality.
