looks like antonetti is doing a better job with the guys that get hurt. this bodes well for next year when he has full control.

"Nobody ever thinks, 'Hey, maybe I’m actually an idiot.'" - Jay
I see this as good news. One less reason to pretend that he was competing for a roster spot, plus we don’t have to listen to certain fans whining about him.
Branyan signing looks smarter. Top 15 prospect ranking looks dumber.

Sad for Brown, though. Timing couldn’t be much worse for him.

Again, I’m not sure I see how it matters. The guy needs to really tear it up at Triple-A before he gets a real shot anywhere. I guess this prevents him from doing that, but the timing would be worse if it were during the season.

I guess I see Spring Training as the one time when front office, player development, and coaching people are all together. If you want to generate some buzz for yourself or interest from other teams, it seems like the best place to do it. And instead, Brown will begin the year on a rehab assignment before getting stationed in Columbus.

It’s not like he’s below the radar, though. There’s no need to attract attention when you’re already on the 40-man roster.

Not really. He was good, but with age and repeating a level factored in, he wasn’t a monster. His 2007 season is actually more impressive.
So Brown, presumably, will go on the disabled list at AAA Columbus. Right?
But what about Grilli? He’s not on a roster. Do the Indians have any obligation to him? Does MLB? Does he get health benefits for being in a MLB camp? Or, if the Indians just let him go home, is Grilli just on his own?

Well, he was signed to a minor league deal with an invite. So he still has a contract. I take it he goes to extended spring training/rehab/minor league DL. But he still is contractually tied to the Indians. Perhaps there is an injury settlement buyout. But given the good history the Indians have with injured/often injured players, Grilli will be fine and taken care of.
When a player is signed to a Minor League contract and invited to Spring Training, and he gets hurt for the year like Jason Grilli, who pays for the surgery? Also, will he get paid by the Indians this year, whatever his Minor League contract stipulates, or will he get nothing?
— Rich S., Columbus, Ohio
The Indians will foot the bill on both fronts, Rich. Grilli signed a Minor League deal that will pay him $17,500 a month.

I am glad I’m not a fan of Alex Gordon’s organization. That guy would kill me.

This is turning into the “making sure Cody doesn’t screw up his fantasy team on draft day again” thread. Jose Reyes, I still curse you.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
I thought he was a top 15 pick?
