I have to go do a little teaching…I should be back around 4:05. I’m expecting the game to be 14-0 Indians at that point.

I’ve got no visuals today, so good descriptions and a little time machining will be key.

Luckily I signed up for my account before the events of this week, so I should have visuals via mlb.tv.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
I refused to buy a yearlong subscription this year since I caught very few games in from July on last year. I’ll go month to month and miss out on ST games I guess.

Plus I start the new job on July 1st, so this year’s watching will take a hit too.

I’d love a little play by play. It’s something that’s totally unnecessary during the regular season, but for this kind of game, I think there’s a few of us who would appreciate it. Am I right?
I take that back. He left the bases empty for Grady. Useless.

I think that is ample evidence that Asdrubal should be in the 2-hole. More opportunities to drive people in with the homerun.

Leadoff double of Grady’s head. Though, if it was the regular season, I think Grady would have went for it.

Things learned thus far in today’s game (via this thread):
- Droobs is a serious impediment to the rest of the team.
- The bullpen is going to be the weak link while the SP is gonna rock. Masterson will win a Cy Young.
- We will never lose a game.
- Nothing gets past the wall known as Marte – Booya!
I just wanted to believe.
If BP has a picture of Wedge glued to the underside bill of his cap we are in trouble.

Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
Meh, I don’t know. I’m going with more bad than good regardless.
< / guy who wants LaPorta to play 150 games in LF >
The drive to succeed is good, the inability to accept failure is bad. I would think that it is easier to learn to accept shortcomings than it is to create a strong desire for success. That’s my argument for good.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
You can’t make a damn thing of yourself if you have one without the other. Drive without perspective is lunacy and perspective without drive is complacency. My experience has been that there are two variables in the equation of success — hard work and talent. What keeps me up at night is, what if the ability to work hard is also a talent?

I know that I am fairly new to the site, but I was wondering everyones thoughts on Laffey. I think he should be a lock as the #4, but I have read some who dont think that I am wondering why?
I think that if he isn’t in the rotation on opening day, then he is either injured or someone made a clerical error.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
A clerical error like having other pitchers without options?

That is not a good enough reason. I don’t see any point to not having Laffey in the rotation. He has proven his value in my eyes.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
I’m with you here. I am in the minority, but I think he might be our 2nd best SP.
< / guy who wants LaPorta to play 150 games in LF >
I feel like he is a consistent #3 starter, will probably be 4 in this rotation behind Westy, Fausto and Masterson.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
oh wow.
i totally forgot about fausto being in the rotation.
by Gradyforpresident on Mar 5, 2010 4:50 PM EST up reply actions
He is the hinge here. I think Westbrook and Masterson all can out perform Laffey on a consistent basis. Fausto, he’ll either be the ace of the staff or.. well, not so much.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
There is a lot of love for Laffey here, but there is also considerable concern for his long-term health. Also, what we have seen from Laffey might be the best he has to offer, whereas some of our other guys have a higher potential ceiling. I would like to see him in the rotation, but he might potentially offer more flexibility out of the bullpen.
by APV on Mar 5, 2010 4:51 PM EST up reply actions
Fourthed. 44 starts of league average ERA from ages 22-24 and we’re supposedly the worst rotation in the league. Seems like a no-brainer to me. But there’s the Talbot option game.
I forgot he was a redhead. He needs to get to the bigz soon so my gf has someone to root for.
Welcome back, Sandy! ATALECG...
I’d like to apologize for my annoying comments regarding Jordan Brown over the past few days. I will now return to my annoying obsession with Wegz, the once and future king.
So far, which of these is the best thing about today’s game:
a) Cabrera’s leadoff HR
b) Choo’s two hits, including a triple
c) Carlos Santana’s 2B
d) Weglarz’s 3-run HR
e) Sweet Lou’s 2-2
f) Masterson’s 3Ks
g) Laffey’s perfect 2 innings
I like the fact that the pitching has been consistently good (or else the Reds hitting has been consistently bad!), and that our catchers have both been productive. And Wegz, of course. Nice first ST game, all in all.

Righteous. Spring training games are a lot like the classic games they play on MLB. Guys stay in the box; pitchers step up to the rubber and throw the ball. I used to think it was just misplaced nostalgia when old timers whined about the pace of play in the modern game, but I was watching some games from the 70s and 80s this winter and thinking, man, this is riveting.
by fleerdon on Mar 5, 2010 9:45 PM EST up reply actions
Just saw the Weglarz at-bat on MLB network’s replay. They were on the STO feed during that half inning, and the announcers had no idea who was at the plate. They kept joking about it, until he went deep, and they decided they better figure who it was before he got his fat frame around the bases.
But a great swing on an outside sinker, took it out the opposite way, no doubt.
Lots of opposite field hits today.
This from our friend Paul. I know I dont proofread all the time ,but if I was a beat writer I probably would take the time.
“Perez started the seventh inning and retired the Reds in order. He once again looked like one of the left-handed relievers in the AL.”
YES YES he did PAUL!
I can’t believe the Mets picked up Kiko Calero on a minor league deal. Really? A guy with a sub 2.00 ERA and 69 k’s in 60 innings can’t get a major league contract from someone?
That being said, where were the Indians on this guy? Maybe a 35 year old reliever in the last throes of his career isn’t exactly what we are looking for in the 2010 season.
Anyone else listening? Huff pitching in the first:
K looking,
1b for Cabrera,
K swinging/Cabrera out stealing “by 25 feet”
So far, so good.

I just put some broken down mopeds I need to move out on Craigslist in the hope of turning them into cash.
So far, I’ve only gotten a few bizarre offers for “interesting” trades. Do you guys think a couple “antique brass fire extinguishers” are a fair trade for mopeds?

Hilarious. I don’t understand this at all. It sounds like he’s not necessarily in need of a moped, but just someone who likes to trade junk for other different junk, like the Ben Wallace – Shaq trade.
So they’ve got some guest in the both, but he’s not miked, so TH keeps telling us what the guy just said.
